New K-Beauty Site In India- Daisy Skin Fix Haul & First Impression

Hey guys, it’s with great excitement that I am going to announce something really huge (at least to me). There’s an online K-beauty store in India where you can get a massive collection of Korean Skincare Brands, brands you didn’t know were available in India. So rejoice Indian K-beauty addicts, you can now get your hands on a number of K-beauty brands now. You have to no more rely on Innisfree and The Face Shop or ship internationally, you can get them all hassle free right in India.

But first thing first, this is not a sponsored post but the products I received were kind of freebie. You might have noticed by now that this article is a bit different from my usual ones, the reason is my pure ecstasy over the fact that I can now get my hands on a huge collection of K-beauty products without having to ship internationally, this has been my dream for over the past few years. And the best part? They have free shipping on all orders.

How I discovered their site:

So I got a mail from their founder a few weeks back, introducing me to their site- http://www.daisy.net.in/ I went through the site, some of the products I craved for were OOS but I ordered a few sheet masks. For now they are only accepting bank deposit and bank transfer so you have to pay after you have placed your order. Right after I placed the order, I received a personal text from the founder that I don’t need to pay for my order, and within a few days I received my order along with two samples.

If you have been reading my blog regularly, you’ll know that my first online haul from any site is always small, so I settled with just a few sheet masks all the while eyeing their products from Missha, Tonymoly, Skinfood, Secret Key, The Saem and so on.

Skinfood, Tonymoly and Missha are probably my most favourite K-beauty brands. Other brands available at their site are-

COSRX, The FaceShop, Innisfree, Skinfood,Tonymoly, Missha, The Saem, Sulwhasoo, Mizon, Zymogen, Ciracle, Secret Key, Laneige, Son & Park, Nature Republic, Dear Clairs and many more.

After I received my order I had a talk with their founder. Turns out their business is at the baby step right now and only two of the co-owners are doing the entire work- one from Korea and one from India. However, they are looking forward to hire stuffs, adding more payment methods, making the site even more user friendly, getting better deals and including more brands as well as opening a physical store. So I hope it’s just a matter of time that they will overcome the only two issues I found a little bothersome- the payment method, and taking a while to restock OOS products

First Impression:

I have tried out The Saem The Snail Brightening Sheet Mask just today. When I first got introduced to K-beauty, I thought that I will never put Snail Poo on my face. And here I am writing the article with a face full of snail slime. Since I have used it just an hour ago, I can’t tell much except for the fact that I loved the fitting. The eye holes made my face look a bit weird but so far it’s the best fitting mask I’ve ever used.

Is there any product from their site you would like me to review?

Edit:  They accept online payments now.

The Face Shop The Solution Brightening Face Mask Review

Hello everybody, today am going to review the second product from my TFS haul- The Solutions Brightening Mask. For some unknown reason it reminded me of the Innisfree Skin Clinic Vita C Sheet Mask and I kind of expected the same result. Spoiler alert- I was disappointed.

 Price: MRP 100rs

 Where To Buy:

Nykaa

 My Experience:

When I said it reminded me of the Innisfree Vita C Mask Sheet, I meant that the very first impression of the whole packaging reminded me of the Vita C mask. However, upon tearing the packet I was surprised to see that The Solution mask came attached to a film similar to the Vita C mask. My expectations went higher. The Vita C Mask worked amazing on me and I was hoping the same from it.

The sheet was drenched in enough serum but there were no extra serum dripping from it. I know that some people like it when there’s extra serum left inside the packet, but I am better off without that kind of messiness. The fitting wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t perfect either. There were a few wrinkles but otherwise I was happy with the fitting. I kept it on for about 30 minutes and when I removed it, the sheet was still damp. I didn’t notice any initial change in my skin except for the fact that it was immensely moisturized.

I usually sheet mask during my night time regimen but this once I used it during my morning routine post exfoliating. The brightening effect was visible within an hour and I was really happy with it. I went to bed with a moisturized, hydrated, brightened and happy face. The next morning? It was all gone. No brightness,no immense hydration. I took a 3hrs train to Kolkata that afternoon and by the time I reached Kolkata my skin was back to being its usual self. It was a bit clearer though but I like the brightening effect of a brightening mask to last at least 2-3 days.

Will I purchase it again?

Nah…

Innisfree Water Glow Cushion SPF 50 + PA +++ Review

Cushion Compacts are a gift to us from the K-beauty brands. After BB Creams, CC Cream, DD Cream and sheet masks, they came up with this revolutionary creation which will make you want to pack your regular foundations and sunscreens away. However, I am a little too late to get my hands on one of the beauties since the only K-beauty brand in India is far away from my city and I had to literally quit my job to finally visit the store as I wasn’t able to manage any leaves. I shopped at the Innisfree store like crazy and it’s a little hard to evaluate for me which pick is my favourite one. I came back to my city like a victor, purchasing a small briefcase dedicated entirely to the products I picked up from the store. The cushion compact however is at the top of my favourite list right now.

The packaging:

I cannot be more happy with the packaging. It’s really easy to travel with. With a film to protect the sponge, the compact cannot get any more hygienic.

My Experience:

DSC02330

The Water Glow Cushion Compact is meant to give the skin the much adored dewy finish. I fell in love with the compact after the very first usage. It gives the skin a medium coverage but it is totally build-able in case you want a better  coverage. As for me, I am very satisfied with the coverage I don’t think I’ll need my usual sunscreens ever again. The staying power is pretty good to. It’s an universal rule to re-apply your sunscreen every 3 hours so whenever am out in the sun for over 3 hours I clean my face with a cleansing wet wipes, spray on some mist on my face and apply the cushion compact all over my face and neck. I feel that’s the most hygienic way to protect my skin from the sun.

Apart from the staying power and the coverage, the application is also worth noting. You just have to dab the smooth, soft puff into the cushion and just pat, pat, pat, all over your face. You might notice the whitish tone in the cream post application, that is because most of K-beauty brand sunscreen uses physical sunscreen instead of a chemical one, which is actually great for your skin. However, unlike any other physical sunscreen, this cushion compact blends super easily on the skin, whereas any other physical sunscreen takes a little effort to blend in and leaves a weird white residue.

The best part? when you feel like your cushion has tried up, just flip it over and use it until that end becomes dry too. The sponge is replaceable and when both the ends become dry you just can purchase a re-fill instead of purchasing the whole thing.

Nothing delights me more than seeing the Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide duo in my product list. 😀

Pros:

  • Travel friendly
  • Contains SPF 50+
  • Doesn’t contain parabens
  • Organic sunscreen
  • Good coverage
  • Gives the skin a dewy look

Cons:

Nothing that I can find, except for it can be a little too pricey for those who are in budget, but that is totally worth it.

The Herb Boutique Zesty Sweet Orange Body Polish Review

Hello everybody, hope you are all doing well. Remember the huge PR package that was sent to me sometimes back?

I have been using the products for a while and it’s about time I start reviewing them as well. Starting with my favourite products inside the box- Zesty Sweet Orange Body Polish.

ABOUT THE HERB BOUTIQUE: The herb boutique is a brand with all things organic. Their products are sulphate, Paraben and cruelty free.  The brand provides products for body and health care. They have body polishers, organic soaps, organic honey, bath salts, hair oil for damaged hair and also variety of organic teas.

I have heard about body polishes so much but haven’t used one before. Needless to say I had no idea what to expect, but since it contained orange zest and orange juice I was really hoping it would remove my horribly stubborn tan that Andaman left me with.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: INR 999/150grams, Available at www.theherbboutique.com

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Awaken your senses with this irresistible scent of citrus from a blend of sweet oranges, vital minerals, and pure almond oil. Zesty Sweet Orange Body Polish will give you a skin that commands respect. Made with only natural products in its purest form, this body polish will rejuvenate your skin.

My Experience:

The Zesty Orange Body Polish comes in a heavy duty jar. As you can see the brand sent me a wooden spatula along with the package, scooping out the body polish really is convenient and hygienic. The texture of the product is thick and sticky with tiny grains. The best part about the polish is that the grain melts after they have done their job, so there’s no need to worry about over-exfoliating. The colour of the product is rich orange and looks and smells yummy. I don’t know about you but citrusy fragrance really refreshes my mind and body. The application of the product is as luxurious at it can get.

The skin becomes super soft and smooth post polishing. As for my tan removal expectation, it indeed removed my tan, but very gradually. If you aren’t much tanned, you can as well expect some brightening effect. Even though it does not dry out my combination skin, I prefer using a body cream throughout the year.

Pros:

  • Does everything it claims
  • Comes with a wooden spatula
  • Chemical and paraben free, all organic ingredient list
  • The grains/granules are super tiny and melts when their job is done, so there’s no fear of over-exfoliating
  • De-tans and brightens skin

Cons:

  • It might seem pricey but since it’s pure organic I think it’s somewhat reasonable

Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Aromatic Skin Toner Review

I’ve raved so much about the importance of toner in all my skincare routine posts. You might feel that it’s an extra step, but once you include a toner in your routine you’ll figure out the difference it makes. Not to mention that they maintain the pH balance of our skin, the right toner can as well minimize the pores and even control break out. But there’s one catch, alcohol based toners can rip your skin out of its natural moisture making your skin dry so avoid using them at all cost. I know many people use toner to remove whatever dirt and makeup are leftover after cleaning their face. I personally think that if your toner drenched cotton pad is taking out dirt or makeup residue from your skin, you are not cleaning your face right. As you can guess my toner drenched cotton pad NEVER gets a trace of dirt or sebum or makeup from my double cleaned (and usually exfoliated or wash off masked) skin, I love spraying my toner all over my face instead of using a cotton pad.

I have been using the Kama Ayurveda Distilled Rose Water for a long time and was on a lookout for an actual toner that was alcohol free. The Aroma Magic Skin Toner caught my eyes from the shelf of the Salon I go to. I’ve purchased so many products from Aroma Magic from that Salon and have loved most of them. I picked up the toner, read the level saying ‘I am 100% free of alcohol, paraben…’ I didn’t read any further, it was mine.

Product Description: Aroma Magic Aromatic Skin Toner for all types of skins. Aroma Magic Aromatic Skin Toner is an alcohol free antiseptic skin toner. It closes pores, softens facial lines, restores skins natural pH and provides radiance and refreshed feeling.

Features:

  • An alcohol free antiseptic skin toner
  • Closes pores, softens facial lines, and restores skin’s natural pH level

Price: Rs. 170 for 200 ml or Rs. 100 for 100 ml

My Experience:

The level at the back of the bottle said to spray it on your face. So of course you’ll expect a spray nozzle inside. To my horror, there was no nozzle at all. I tried using it by putting a cotton pad on top of it and shaking it, but so much products were spilled. I had no idea why would they package such a wonderful toner in such an useless package. Was it because it costs just 100 bucks? I Googled reviews from other bloggers and found out that their bottles do contain a nozzle, if not a spray nozzle. Was it just mine or have they changed the packaging? If it was just mine then was it a manufacturing defect or was my toner not a genuine one? I can vouch that the salon I got it from won’t sell fake products. So I don’t know what happened in there.

Then I came up with an idea. I had so many empty bottles of the Kama Ayurveda Rose Water mini version. I washed one up and poured the toner into the bottle and tada! I can spray an alcohol and paraben free all natural toner on my face, perfect! Does that sound unhygienic? May be, but at least am getting to use the product now.

The toner is super watery which is why so much product got wasted when I tried to use the first time. I have used rose waters and toners with my finger tips many times but with this toner it is just impossible. The toner has a mild fragrance which I don’t like or dislike, I don’t bother about it at all. However, upon religious usage I have noticed that my (hormonal) breakouts and the occasional weird bumps have been controlled. It says it’s for oily skin, and I have a combination skin which gets oily during my hormonal days, so I limit the usage of this toner to once a day, while during my daytime regimen I continue using my Kama Ayurveda Distilled Rose Water.

I absolutely love it. If you are someone who prefers using a cotton pad for applying a toner, you are supposedly going to love it even more for it works like a hero on clearing away excess oil and sebum. Oily skin beauties- this one’s for you, combination skin beauties- you can give this one a try.

Will I repurchase?

If it came with a spray nozzle or at least a normal nozzle I would never purchase any other toner ever. Considering it doesn’t, maybe I’ll continue pouring it in my empty rose water bottles, but I will still be on the lookout for my Holy Grail toner that comes with a spray nozzle (or at least any nozzle).

Will I recommend it?

If you can pour it in any spray bottle, or if you can come up with your unique method of using it, please give it a try.

Where to buy:

Official Site, Purplle, Nykaa, Amazon

 Pros:

  • Controls oil
  • Controls breakout
  • Removes excess sebum from the skin (okay I tested that once)
  • Paraben, Alcohol, Chemical Free
  • Super Cheap

Cons:

  • Doesn’t come with a nozzle
  • Thus not travel friendly

Natural Bath and Body Grapefruit & Vitamin C Gel Face Masque Review

Grapefruit extracts are loaded with anti-oxidants and are great our skin. But the bad news is that they can be potential irritant on sensitive skin. I still gave the Natural Bath & Body Grapefruit and Vitamin C Nourishment Cream a try considering their products work really great on my skin. However they broke me out and gave me bumps on my cheeks that took too long to go away. So when I received the Bath & Body Grapefruit and Vitamin C Masque with my Fab Bag I wasn’t happy. I still wanted to give it a try. It broke me out without fail. I wasn’t using any other new product back then but I still considered giving it another try, and it broke me out again. I got weird and tiny red bumps on my face and I never bothered to give it a third try.

What Does it Claim?

Nature’s most powerful antioxidants- Vitamin C, grapefruit oil and plant extracts team up together to create this whitening gel pack. This citrus facemask gently removes impurities and reveals skin thats remarkably lighter, whiter and brighter. Formulated with a precise concentration of Vitamin C that is known for its anti-aging and antioxidant powers, this gel also nourishes collagen fibers to maintain skin firmness. It is combined with Grapefruit extract to enhance its ability to lift the skin complexion and protect it from environmental damage.

Price: Rs. 325/- for 100 ml

My Experience:

The masque comes in a orangish gel like consistency that contains tiny beads for exfoliating. Like the instruction said, I applied the mask on a clean face and I started noticing a tingling sensation on my skin. I guess that’s because of the Vitamin C. I washed off my face after 15 minutes and within half an hour or so, I started noticing weird bumps on my skin. My skin doesn’t usually react to products containing Vita C so I guess it was just the Grapefruit Extract. I’m staying away from them for the rest of my life.

Pros:

  • Paraben and chemical free
  • Spreads and washes off easily

Cons:

  • Broke me out
  • Didn’t do anything it claimed to

Innisfree Capsule Recipe Pack Rice Sleeping Pack Review

Hello everybody, today I’ll be reviewing the Innisfree Capsule Recipe Pack in rice which is a repeat purchase from Innisfree. I bought it for the first time during my Delhi trip last year and I was so in love that I ordered it again when Innisfree launched at Nykaa. I’ve been reading about the benefits of sleeping packs ever since I got introduced to K-Beauty and it’s the first one I tried, so far the best one as well.

Sleeping packs are twice a week alternatives for night creams which are supposed to be left on overnight and wash off in the morning with regular cleanser followed by the morning routine. So while you sleep, your skin absorbs all the goodness and you wake up with a well-behaved skin. Sleep packs often come with anti-aging benefits, and just like any other beauty products, different sleep packs offer different treatments.

My love for rice products are no secret, they are so purifying and provides such an amazing brightening effect, I’ve used rice masks from Etude House, Tonymoly, Skinfood, Innisfree and loved the ALL, none of them disappointed me.

What it is

A capsule recipe containing rice to brighten your skin
1. Brighten and nourish your skin using rice ingredients.
2. Enriched sizzling formation provides skin solutions.
3. A night pack that you apply and allow to absorb overnight.

How to use
  1. Massage an appropriate quantity into you face as the last step of your skincare regime. Rinse off with warm water when you wake up the following morning. Choose the capsule that best suits your skin.
    2. Insert the lid into the slit of the container and close it to keep it fresh for your next use.

Ingredients:

WATER,BUTYLENE GLYCOL,HYDROGENATED POLY(C6-14 OLEFIN),GLYCERIN,MANNAN,CETEARYL ALCOHOL,OCTYLDODECYL MYRISTATE,DIMETHICONE,BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA BUTTER),POLYSORBATE 60,ULMUS DAVIDIANA ROOT EXTRACT,AMARANTHUS CAUDATUS SEED EXTRACT,ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) EXTRACT,CENTELLA ASIATICA EXTRACT,FICUS CARICA (FIG) FRUIT EXTRACT,PORTULACA OLERACEA EXTRACT,PUERARIA THUNBERGIANA ROOT EXTRACT,GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA (LICORICE) ROOT EXTRACT,PAEONIA LACTIFLORA ROOT EXTRACT,CNIDIUM OFFICINALE ROOT EXTRACT,CITRUS UNSHIU PEEL EXTRACT,ORCHID EXTRACT,CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT,CAMELLIA JAPONICA LEAF EXTRACT,OPUNTIA COCCINELLIFERA FRUIT EXTRACT,SOLUBLE COLLAGEN,ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE,HYDROGENATED LECITHIN,SODIUM HYALURONATE,1,2-HEXANEDIOL,SORBITAN STEARATE,STEARIC ACID,GLYCERYL STEARATE,PEG-100 STEARATE,XANTHAN GUM,TOCOPHERYL ACETATE,CARBOMER,TRIETHANOLAMINE,ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN,DISODIUM EDTA,CERAMIDE 3,FRAGRANCE,PHENOXYETHANOL

The order I follow: (For night time regimen)

  1. Oil cleanser
  2. Foaming Cleanser
  3. Exfoliator (twice a week)
  4. Wash off mask (twice a week)
  5. Toner
  6. Serum
  7. Sheet Mask (twice or more a week)
  8. Sleep Pack (Twice a week, and a night cream the rest of the week)
  9. Eye cream

Pretty intense, huh? However I don’t really follow all the steps every day and there are days I follow only 4-5 steps. Surprisingly, the longer my regimen is, the more I enjoy my routine.

My experience with the Rice Sleeping Pack:

As I told you, it was my first sleeping pack and I did not know what to expect. The product looks like a yummy rice pudding, white sticky and smelled sweet. Luckily, it does not feel sticky on the face. Even if it does, the feeling will go away within minutes. It gets absorbed in my skin with light massaging without leaving any oily residue. The following morning I wake up to a nice plumped up and brightened skin. I’ve been using it twice a week and my skin has been looking noticeably radiant and even. No wonder I repurchased it and will be repurchasing again.

As I earlier mentioned that Innisfree has improved the packaging of the capsule recipe packs and they are now way too easy to store. The previous pack lasted me for like 5-6 usages.

Will I recommend it?

Yes. It comes in a tiny tub for just 150 bucks, so you can try it once for yourself without digging a hole in your pocket.

Cons:

  • Does what it claims
  • Nice fragrance
  • Pocket Friendly
  • Softens and plumps
  • Travel friendly
  • Can even up skin tone and reduce redness

Cons:

Nothing

Oshea Herbals Neempure Anti Acne And Pimple Face Wash Review

You know one of those times when a brand sends you some press samples and you fall in love with them so bad that you end up ordering more products from them? So a similar scene happened down here after I was sent some stuffs from Oshea Herbals. One of the products I purchased from them happens to be Oshea Neempure Anti-Acne And Pimple Face Wash.

I’ve earlier mentioned that I thankfully don’t breakout much except for those hormonal days. I’ve been getting 1 cystic acne every month over the last 1 and half years and the terrible spot they are leaving are bothering me too much. I cannot use spot treatments because my skin reacts terribly when I use Retinol. In fact retinol is the reason I started breaking out in the first place but that’s another story.  Let’s get down to the Neempure Face Wash Review.

Now the mentioned face wash doesn’t necessarily claim anything besides battling acne and pimple, so it didn’t have much work on my skin except for just those days. I’ve never used any acne products in the past because I do not get them very frequently, thus I was sceptical if it will be able to battle something that’s a complete internal issue. The reason why we breakout during those days is because of the excessive oil production which results in pore clogging thus acne. The best I could have done was to exfoliate my face to unclog the pores, use a detox mask and switch to anti-acne products which is supposed to battle acne, maybe by removing the excess oil from my face? And I am very disappointed to say that this face wash has failed to battle the only acne I get each month. I used this over 2 months, while my other techniques seemed to work a little better, this one did not. It did however successfully remove the excess oil from my face, and my skin was behaving a little better than the other months during those days but the acne did peep. I guess it might work better on beauties who suffer from pimples throughout, especially because of oily skin. But it certainly does not battle hormonal acnes.

Price: 160 Rs for 120 gm

Where to buy:

Official Site , Snapdeal, Ebay, Amazon

Pros:

  • Did control the oil break out
  • Pocket Friendly

Cons:

  • Did not stop the one acne I get each month
  • Contains parabens
  • Contains SLS
  • Dries out skin a little

Will I repurchase it?

My be not. There are too many other Face Wash from their different range to explore.

Will I recommend it?

Oily skin beauties who suffer from acne might give this one a try.

Goodal Phytowash Yerba Mate Bubbling Peeling Review

Hello everybody, today am going to review the Goodal Phytowash Yerba Mate Bubbling Peeling that I have been using over the last 2 years. It’s basically the 3rd Korean Skincare product I have tried. That was months before I started blogging. Had I known back then that I will be reviewing this product someday and will be sticking with the single bottle for the next two years I would not have thrown the carton away. I technically didn’t throw it away; I just didn’t carry it with me when I moved.

The fact that I have been loyal to this product for so long has already given the spoiler alert that I really like it. Yes 2 years is a long time for a bottle to last, but considering the fact that it’s an exfoliator and I use it only once a week, sometimes testing other exfoliators in between and most importantly just a tiny amount is enough to exfoliate the whole face and neck, it sounds pretty logical that I haven’t ran out of the bottle yet.

Back when I was obsessing over getting my hands on K-beauty products, I remember my then colleagues warning me that maybe it’s not for Indian skin and weather. K-beauty wasn’t even a thing in our country back then. But I went ahead anyway and took the risk of trying 3 Korean products at one go. Charlotte Cho from Sokoglam had generously sent me a package of Tonymoly Brightening Cleansing Oil, Skinfood Tea Tree Bubble Cleansing Foam and lastly Goodal Phytowash along with a Missha Essence Sample that I immediately fell in love with. My brain screamed at me to try 1 product each day since I was trying K-beauty for the first time but my heart (and my skin) just couldn’t resist. I applied the 4 products one by one, and out of all the 4 products the Phytowash was the only product I was a little sceptical about and once you look at the ingredient list you’ll understand why.

Ingredients: Water, Lauryl Glucoside, Glycerin, Yerba Mate (Ilex Paraguariensis) Leaf Extract, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyethylene, Ethyl Perfluoroisobutyl Ether, Ethyl Perfluorobutyl Ether, Acrylates Copolymer, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide DEA, Polyacrylamide, Triethanolamine, Betaine, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Phenoxyethanol, PVP, Salicylic Acid, Laureth-7, Olive (Olea Europaea) Fruit Oil, Allantoin, Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis) Peel Oil, Lavendin (Lavandula Hybrida) Oil, Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia) Oil, Cocoa (Theobroma Cacao) Extract, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Black Currant (Ribes Nigrum) Seed Oil, Bergamot (Citrus Aurantium Bergamia) Fruit Oil, Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil, Orange (Citrus Aurantium Dulcis) Fruit Extract, Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis) Fruit Extract, Rose (Rosa Damascena) Flower Oil, Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Anise (Illicium Verum) Fruit/Seed Oil, Coriander (Coriandrum Sativum) Fruit Oil, Sage (Salvia Officinalis) Oil, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Matricaria (Chamomilla Recutita) Flower Extract, Camu Camu (Myrciaria Dubia) Fruit Extract, Vanilla (Vanilla Planifolia) Fruit Extract, Sandalwood (Santalum Album) Oil, Brazil Nut (Bertholletia Excelsa) Seed Oil, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Murumuru (Astrocaryum Murumuru) Seed Butter, Cupuacu (Theobroma Grandiflorum) Seed Butter

I mean that’s a scary long list, and according to my CosDNA analysis, there’s some irritants sitting comfortably in the list. Cocamide DEA and Salicylic Acid shows ref flag. If that wasn’t enough, here’s a list of acne irritants –

Sodium Laureth Sulfate 3/5 Acne

Triethanol amine 2/5 Ance

Olive Fruit Oil 2/5 Acne

Butylene Glycol 1/5 Acne

Now let’s come to the sensitive skin part- SLS 2/ irritant.

Coming to the impressive ingredients found in the list…

Yerba Mate: Known as God’s drink, contains 50 types of minerals and vitamins. Some of its known benefits are: anti-aging, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, brightens complexion, lightens scar, improve skin texture and retains moisture.

Glycerine: We know the benefits right? They are super moisturizing and protects the skin against irritation.

Salicylic acid: The chemical exfoliator. They remove dead skin, increases cell turnover, reduces inflammation, opens up pore, breaks down sebum in pore and increases collagen production.

Product Description: An exfoliator with an exciting twist, it bubbles! This nutritious exfoliator is made into a creamy serum that transforms into a foaming peel. It contains hypoallergenic grains that can remove dead skin cells. It can cleanse and detoxify the pores without stripping the skin of its essential moisture. The exfoliator promotes healthy skin and vitality while hydrating it. It can protect the skin from environmental stress that can cause premature aging. The exfoliator is formulated with Yerba Mate, which is known as ‘God’s Drink’. It is a tea that contains polyphenol, saponin, and vitamins that can help to recharge tired and fatigued skin.

To Use: Use 1 to 2 times a week. Use the exfoliator as the last step of your evening cleansing routine. Dispense 1 to 2 pumps of the product and spread it over a dry or slightly moistened face. Wait 1 to 2 minutes until the product transforms into a light layer of foam. Gently massage the foam with fingertips for 15 to 20 seconds. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry. For optimal results, use a sheet mask after the exfoliator.

My experience:

Applying this exfoliator is a delight in itself, not to mention effortless as well. You apply a thin layer of the gel exfoliator on wet skin and it bubbles up all over your face (how I wish I had a hand model for the demo pics). Since the exfoliator contains both Salicylic acid and micro beads, it works both as a chemical exfoliator and a physical exfoliator. It also doesn’t require exfoliating too much. After the gel transfers into a thick layer of bubble you just need to massage your face for 30 seconds and rinse.

As I said that I’ve been using this exfoliator for around 2 years now and thankfully the culprit ingredients did my skin no harm. My skin looks visibly smooth and clean after each time I use it. Like I repeatedly say, I sheetmask post exfoliating, and this is the usual exfoliator I use and the duo works amazing on my skin.

Will I repurchase it?

Absolutely! It’s the best exfoliater I’ve used so far. May be I won’t repurchase right after finishing this one, because as you guys know I like experimenting and I might want to try out a new one, but I will surely get it back in my stash in near future.

Will I suggest it?

May be it’s not a best idea for the sensitive skin beauties. I am cursed with a hyper-sensitive skin myself and luckily it didn’t react badly on my skin, doesn’t mean it won’t on you. I’ve explained the goods and the bads and if you think that none of the above mentioned ingredients reacts badly on your skin, or if you are not cursed with a sensitive skin at all, then there’s a high chance you are going to find your Holy Grail exfoliator when you try this one.

Pros:

  • Does everything it claims
  • Attractive packaging
  • The pump dispenses the right amount
  • Hygienic

Cons:

  • Availability
  • The long list of ingredients contains some irritants

It’s Real Squeeze Mask-Strawberry Review

My reviews of Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask range has almost come to an end. After reviewing a lot of my amazing finds from the range I will share a disappointment today- Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Strawberry. I have reviewed almost every mask from the range (except for the bija) and I guess you guys are quite familiar with the range, so this one is going to be real quick.

What it is

Get supple and translucent skin with the strawberry It’s real squeeze mask!

1. It’s real squeeze mask – strawberry
Strawberry helps make your skin bright and supple.

2. Jeju green complex
The Jeju green complex consists of green tea, tangerine, cactus, camellia leaves, and orchids to keep your skin healthy.

3. Triple-layered sheet
This triple-layer sheet has a long-lasting moisturizing effect so that the essence can gradually be absorbed into the skin.

How to use

  1. After washing your face, gently apply toner on your face to even out your skin texture.
    2. Then, apply the mask over your entire face, avoiding your eye and lip areas.
    3. Remove the mask after 10-20 minutes and gently pat your face to allow the remaining formula to absorb into your skin.

Price:  100Rs

My Experience:

As usual I used the sheet mask post exfoliating and kept it on for about 30 minutes. The sheet was soaked in a LOT of essence and the fitting was just like any other mask from the range-almost perfect. Upon removing the mask my skin was excessively moisturized. The essence on my face took a lot of time to absorb unlike any other sheet mask. My skin was immensely hydrated and moisturized throughout the following days. It has to be the best moisturizing mask from the range. However, having a combination skin, moisturization is not one of my concerns and I was a bit disappointed as it did not do anything besides moisturizing. It claims brightening but I did not notice any. So overall, it can be an amazing mask for dry skin beauties but for combination and oily skin beauties might not be as impressed.

Pros:

  • Moisturizes
  • Pocket Friendly

Cons:

  • Does not brighten.

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask – Pomegranate Review

Hey guys, I haven’t reviewed any K-beauty products for a while and I’m here to compensate for that. Today I’ll be reviewing the Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Pomegranate. Now even though my first concern while sheet masking is brightness, I am well aware that it’s about time I start using anti-aging products as well. To be very honest, I haven’t incorporated any anti-aging products in my regimen permanently but from time to time I indulge in firming treatments- like sheet masks and facials and stuff. Pomegranate is known for its skin firming benefits and thus it had its due share in my regimen.

My Experience:

Just like any other sheet mask, I used it after exfoliating my skin and kept it on for about 30 minutes. The fitting was a little terrible than the other sheet masks from the same range which is weird. The mask was still wet while I took it off and my face was immensely hydrated and supple. There was no brightening effect and the product did not claim any. The following morning my skin was firm and nourished and behaved well for the following days.

Will I purchase it again?

Given to the fact that I haven’t started any thorough anti-aging regimen yet, I might as well take help from this mask from time to time.

Will I recommend it?

To anyone who is 25+

Pros:

  • Does what it claims
  • Travel friendly
  • Pocket Friendly

Cons:

  • No brightening effect

Astaberry Pearl Facial kit Review

Hello everybody, today I am going to review the Astaberry Pearl Skin Tightning Facial kit. Astaberry has got a wide range of facial kit collection and I have already reviewed the Oxy Facial Kit which I loved dearly. The Pearl Facial kit, just like the oxy one comes in a rectangular box with a freebie Papaya Face Wash. The whole thing will last you 4-5 facials and I think for Rs.225/- it’s a great deal.

Description: This kit contains precious pearls along with Soy Protein Extract. Research has revealed that pearls contain a combination of natural substances that help to improve rejuvenation of the skin cells. This treatment is ideal to provide hydration to the skin and make it look firm, soft, smooth & young.

Ingredients:

Key Elements: Pearl Powder, Soy Protein Extract

 Pearl Powder

Rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids.Anti-aging properties.

 Soy Protein Extract

Rich in essential amino acids. Antioxidants & anti-inflammatory agents. Helps in repair, restore & nourishment.

 Skincare Benefits:

Let your skin experience the goodness of Pearl powder with this Pearl Facial Kit from Astaberry.

Improves Skin Moisturization

The rich formulation of wine in this facial kit adds the desired amount of moisture and makes your skin soft and supple.

Replenish Depleted Moisture

This facial depletes the lost moisture of your skin and nourishes it in the most unique way.

Everlasting Glow and Fairness

This facial allows to pamper your skin providing a soothing effect and leaves your skin more beautiful than before. You can get that instant glow and fair skin with this facial kit.

 How I use it:

Gel Cleanser: The cleanser is a shimmery gel and doesn’t foam up. I end up using so much of the gel every time that I worry that I will run out of it while the other contains will be good to go for a couple of more usages. I massage the gel for 2 minutes and wash it off with cold water (even though the instruction asks for wiping with a piece of cloth)

Scrub: The scrub comes with a white creamy textures and tiny granules. Now you guys are aware of my love for scrubs and exfoliators that comes with tiny granules because big granules can permanently damage the skin. I massage the scrub on my entire face and neck for 2-3 minutes and wash it off.

Massage Cream: I let my skin cool down for a couple of minutes and massage my face with the massage cream using my finger tips in a circular motion for around 10 minutes. The massage cream is white and thick in texture and a coin size amount is required to massage the entire face and neck.

Pack: After whipping away the excess cream I apply a thick layer of the pack on my face and neck and wash it off with cold water after 10 minutes.

My experience:

The facial kit certainly does not provide the super brightening and lightening effect I enjoyed with the Oxy Facial Kit. However, my skin feels noticeably firm and tight after using this facial kit. That’s right, the Box mentions anti-aging benefits over and over again and that part of the claim proved to be true. Even though the ‘glow’ wasn’t as noticeable as the Oxy Facial kit, I would still recommend this facial kit to anyone who is 25+.

Where to buy:

 Official Site, Flipkart, Amazon

 Pros:

  • Value for money
  • Does what it claims
  • Comes with a free face wash
  • All the contains comes in tubes, making them super hygenic

Cons:

  • Loaded with parabens

Oshea Cocoa Honey Moisturising Lotion Review

Hello everybody, today am going to review the Oshea Herbals Cocoa Honey Moisturizing Lotion that I have been using for the past couple of weeks. Now I usually did not have any good experience with face lotions in the past, even the Korean ones gave me pimples. So I was a little sceptical about this lotion but went ahead considering that I have never been disappointed with any Oshea Products (neither with the brands whose lotions broke me out).

What Oshea Cocoa Honey Moisturising Lotion claims?
Cocoa Honey Moisturizing Lotion for the face with 2X moisturizing level to ensure moisture during harsh winter.

Added with Cocoa Butter and Honey as an active ingredient, this face moisturizer intends skin moisture retention and elasticity. Licorice and Aloevera extracts in the lotion promote fairer and glowing skin.

Moreover, it works as a protective lotion and maintains the PH balance of the skin. It is nongreasy moisturizing lotion with quick penetration formula that provides soft, silky and smooth skin.

Price and quantity

Rs.225 for 120 ml

Buy it here:  www.osheaherbals.com

Shelf life: 3 years from manufacturing

My Experience:

Looking for the perfect day cream is a mission I have taken up some times ago. Some is too greasy, some doesn’t hydrate enough. My initial impression upon my first usage of this Cocoa Honey Lotion was terrific. I thought that this could have been my Holy Grail day cream if it contained a little SPF. I do wear sun block separately but when I go out I layer the SPF like – Day Cream with SPF- Sun Block – Compact Powder with SPF to ensure extra sun protection. The moisturizer is too mild for night time usages but perfect for the day time since it doesn’t make the skin feel greasy and feels light on the skin. So of course an added usage of Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide would have been perfect.

The texture is neither too runny nor too thick and absorbs into the skin pretty easily. On my combination skin 2 to 3 pumps are enough to moisturize my face and my neck. Dry Skin beauties might not be very satisfied with this mild moisturizer but it’s really perfect for combination skin (and oily skin may be?). Over the past couple of weeks I’ve grown only one acne but it took its first peak the evening after I took a 9 hours of road trip, so I’m blaming the travel for the acne instead of this little baby.

The aroma is pretty good too, smells mildly of cocoa which I love. Apart from the amazing hydration and moisturization it provides, there arenot much noticeable changes in my skin tone. Because it contains liquorice I was expecting a little brightened skin tone but I’ve been disappointed regarding that so far.

Will I purchase it again?

I don’t know. The bottles are going to last me long considering the amount am using once a day. And then you guys know I how love experimenting and trying out new products so I might not repurchase. Had it contained a little SPF I would have

Will I recommend it?

Yes.

Pros:

  • Travel friendly
  • Pocket friendly
  • Smells nice
  • Didn’t break me out
  • Hygienic pump
  • Non greasy
  • Hydrates and moisturizes

Cons:

  • Contains parabens
  • Doesn’t contain SPF

SkinYoga Coffee Body Scrub Review

Hello everybody, today I’m going to review a product that has been sitting in my stash for so long that I forgot when I received it and with which beauty box. I have earlier talked about my love for toiletries and how there’s literally no space in my left in cabinet for presumably an infinite amount of time. That’s probably why the Skinyoga Coffee Body Scrub has been sealed in my ownership for so long. I mean literally it has been sitting idle for so long that the Golden Pouch has even started losing its colour. That’s one reason I opened it up before I ran out of the other body scrubs I have been using.

Product Claims:

De-tans and Reduces Cellulites.

The caffeine enhances fat metabolism and removes liquid and fat from your skin, ultimately reducing the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks. The natural oil moisturizes and nourishes your skin. This scrub also treats inflammation and protects your skin from sun damage.

My Experience:

The coffee scrub comes in an attractive golden zip lock pouch. The zip lock does a great job protecting the product from air and water. However, it gets a little inconvenient getting the product out of the pouch. Since I avoid putting my wet hands inside it, I end up spilling and wasting so much product while pouring it in my palm. So I guess the best way to use this scrub is to by transferring it to a convenient container.

Moving on the fragrance. It’s heaven. The fragrance of the coffee is even stronger than the fragrance inside any CCD outlet and am not even lying. You can literally get addicted to it if you happen to love coffee as much as I do.

And then if you can take your mind off the fragrance for a while, you might even discover that it’s probably the best body scrub you’ve ever used. Well at least it’s the best body scrub that I have ever used. The ground coffee scrub gradually keeps melting into your skin with the massaging, which means that you don’t really have to worry about over-scrubbing. While the scrub keeps melting you can also feel your skin getting softer and smoother all the while inhaling the intoxicating coffee smell. Upon washing it off the skin feels deeply moisturized and hydrated because of the presence of the coconut oil and the sesame oil. And the best part? You hop out of the shower totally refreshed!

Since there’s no instruction saying how frequently you should use the scrub, I use it once or twice a week since I don’t want to risk over scrubbing and if I want to be honest I must admit that it’s with great hesitation that I avoid the temptation of using it the rest of the days.

Because I don’t have any stretch marks and stuffs *touchwood* I cannot tell if that part of the claim is true, but it sure de-tans like a pro.

Overall, I am in love. I might repurchase it once I run out but considering the whooping amount of money it costs, I’m not sure how soon.

Pros:

  • Smell…..
  • Paraben free, preservative free, Fragrance free
  • De-tans
  • Works as an amazing scrub
  • Hydrates and moisturizes the skin (but that does not mean I skip the moisturizer)

Cons:

  • Too expensive
  • I am not a huge fan of zip lock pouches (personal opinion)

Just Herbs Silkskin Indian Ginseng-Aloevera Moisturising Cream Review

Hello everybody, today I’ll be reviewing the Just Herbs Silk Skin Indian Ginseng-Aloe Vera Moisturising Cream that has been pending for so long. The reason it has been pending is because I purchased it during fall, and it was too heavy on my skin that it broke me out a little. I never had a bad experience with any Just Herbs product so I wanted to give it another try when the weather was a bit colder.

Since the beginning of January I started using it again. Even though I purchased it for my day time regimen as my skin is too comfortable with the Taiyu Silk Moisturizing Cream that I use during my night time regimen, I think that it will be more suitable for night time.

What the brand claims:

An emollient cream to protect your skin in by maintaining an optimum oil moisture balance. It smoothens, hydrates and protects the skin, by providing ultra nourishment and an extended hydration. The anti-inflammatory action of Aloe Vera, Indian Ginseng and Holy Basil protects from free radical damage to reveal a soft, supple and rejuvenated skin.

  • Contains certified organic Indian Ginseng, Aloe Vera and certified organic cold-pressed Almond and sunflower seed oil
  • Free from petrochemicals, parabens, SLS/SLES PEG/PPG, Genetically modified ingredients(GMO) and other synthetic ingredients

My experience:

As I said, the cream feels too heavy on my skin. The texture is too thick that it takes a lot of effort to absorb into my skin. So I use even a lesser than a pea-sized amount. Even though that works, an extra layer of serum leaves the skin feeling greasy and that one time I used it after sheet masking, my skin was left super greasy until I washed it off during my night time regimen. So much so that even if I apply it before my toner is completely absorbed into my skin, it becomes a pain to massage it into my skin.

So how does it work?

After about a week of struggling with this cream I finally mastered the technique. After washing my face during my am skincare I pat my skin dry with a towel, apply my toner, pat it and wait for it to be completely absorbed into my skin, skip my serum and then take a very tiny amount of this cream and massage it into my skin.  Doing that, it doesn’t feel heavy on my skin and after a while it absorbs into my skin amazingly leaving my skin moisturized throughout the day.

I’ve been using this moisturizer for a while and I haven’t felt any dramatic changes in my skin texture and it doesn’t claim to. It just claims moisturization and that it does too well, along with really making my skin soft and supple.

Will I purchase it again?

I am only able to use it up as the weather is still cold. I am pretty sure I won’t be able to use it a month later. And with that little amount required, I guess it would have lasted me 2 years even if I used it throughout the year. So no, am not purchasing it again.

I’ve got the Just Herbs Aloe Massage Gel sitting in my stash which I am pretty sure is a great option for their summer so I’ll be using that from Spring.

Will I recommend it?

Dry Skin beauties- Yes

Combination beauties- If you are looking for a thick cream (especially for night time regimen) or something to get you through the winter.

Oily Skin beauties –Absolutely not

  • Consistency is too thick

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask- Rose Review

After my rant about sheet mask mistakes yesterday, I thought it would only be appropriate to review a sheet mask today. So yesterday I was going through my mask stash and since my skin wasn’t asking for anything specific yesterday I went ahead with the one much underrated by me- Innisfree It’s Real Rose Sheet Mask. I don’t know why but I really did not have too much expectation from this particular mask, but at the end of the day I was proven wrong.

What it is

Get supple and radiant skin with the rose It’s real squeeze mask!
1. It’s real squeeze mask – ros
Fragrant roses provide moisture to your skin to make it supple and smooth.

How to use:

  1.  After washing your face, gently apply toner on your face to even out your skin texture.
    2. Then, apply the mask over your entire face, avoiding your eye and lip areas.
    3. Remove the mask after 10-20 minutes and gently pat your face to allow the remaining formula to absorb into your skin.

Price: MRP 100Rs

Where to buy:

Nykaa

Ingredients list: Water, glycerin, butylene glycol, alcohol, betaine, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) fruit extract, rosa centifolia flower juice, xanthan gum, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, ethylhexylglycerin, sodium hyaluronate, citrus unshiu peel extact, orchid extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, camellia japonica leaf extract, opuntia coccinellifera fruit extract, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, fragrance

My CosDNA analysis came up pretty clean with only butylene glycol raising a low 1 potential acne trigger. But then a lot of products contains bulylene glycol and my skin never reacted badly to it.

My Experience:

It was probably the first sheet mask that I tried during my morning regimen as a part of my experiment. I’ve been reading about how K-beauty enthusiasts apply them on the morning and then finish it off with a moisturizer and then with a sunscreen and flaunt the hydration throughout the day. I kept the sheet mask on for about 30 minutes and it was still wet while I took it off. The fitting was average and the rose smell was too pleasant.

The moisturizer that I’ve been using for a couple of weeks now feels too heavy on my skin (review coming soon). So after I took off the mask my skin was immensely hydrated but after using the moisturizer I didn’t notice anything except for the hydration. After I washed my face during my night time regimen, the heavy feeling from the moisturizer went away and the radiance and brightening effect were noticeable. The hydration lingered when I woke up the next day (today) and the radiance is still noticeable while I’m writing this post, though not too dramatic but enough to make me feel guilty to avoid it for so long.

Will I purchase it again?

Sure it won’t be my first choice while sheet mask hauling the next time, but if I’m picking up a bunch, it certainly will be in my cart.

Will I recommend it?

To anyone who wants moisture+hydration+radiance

5 Sheet Mask Mistakes You Are Probably Making

K-beauty is still a relatively new concept in India compared to the western world. And who can you blame? Apart from the fact that Indian Women usually don’t indulge in much skincare, India also lacks the abundance of the amazing products that South Korea has to offer. We only have Innisfree and The Face Shop (very recently launched) to at least get the idea what the ravings are all about. Sometimes we hear the ravings (and criticism) from the mouth of people who have used only a couple of products from the above mentioned brands (no disregard meant) but are yet to get their hands on the much glorious brands. No doubt, Innisfree is an excellent brand but trust me, there are much, much, much, better brands out there to experiment with. Because you can’t tell what’s really working on your skin until you have tried more than just one brand.

The reason why I’m taking my time to write this article today is because I’ve read many Indian Bloggers giving out misinformation to their readers. I am not here to name anyone bad, but since I have been indulging in Korean Skincare for over 2 years now and I have been studying about it for so long, trying out so many brands and communicating with Korean Beauty Bloggers as well as K-beauty Bloggers from different parts of the world am just using this column to share the knowledge I have gained in this two years.

Today’s post will only be about sheet masks because I have read so many misinformation regarding them and I thought that this was much needed. So here are some stuffs you need to keep in mind if you are someone who indulges in K-beauty or you are looking forward to.

  1. Do not wash your face after sheet masking:

So I was going through a very popular blog reading reviews as I sometimes do during my leisure hours and I came across an Innisfree Sheet Mask review and the blogger was actually complaining about how the moisture didn’t linger after washing her face. I mean why??? Why would you do that? Why would you waste that hard earned hydration and moisture by just washing your face. Sheet Masks are literally sheets drenched in serum or essence. Do you wash your face right after applying a serum? NO. Then why would you do that after sheet masking? You just earned your face an amazing hydration and moisture, so just enjoy it and only wash your face during your next skincare routine.

  1. Do not reuse your sheet mask:

This one I read like million times. Like people actually store that used sheet mask so when they sheet mask the next time and there’s a little serum left at the bottom of the packet, they soak the used sheet in that serum and give it to someone in the family to use. Again, why? If you are indulging in something this unhygienic and feeding your skin with so many bacteria then why would you even indulge in skincare in the first place. The first rule of thumb is to be hygienic. People who actually indulge in Korean Skincare maintain their hygiene like their religion. We don’t even put our washed fingers in products that comes in tubs, we use washed sterilized spatula to be extra careful. So just throw away that used sheet when you sheet mask the next time.

  1. Follow it up with a moisturizer:

Because sheet masks are drenched in serum, not moisturizer. Both have different tasks and your skin needs both. I don’t know how many people use a moisturizer or a night cream after sheet masking but I’ve heard a lot of people complaining that the sheet masks have made their skin sticky and greasy. Yes, because you’ve probably forgot to seal in the goodness with a layer of moisturizer. And no, an added layer doesn’t make your skin more greasy, it just locks it all in.

  1. Don’t leave it on for too long:

I’ll admit that while sheet masks are usually required to be left on for 20 minutes, I do leave them on for 30 minutes sometimes, especially if I feel that the mask is drenched in too much serum. But I do remove it while the sheet is still damp. If you leave it on until it’s completely dry, chances are that the sheet will soak back the moisture from your skin. (This point is actually made by Korean Skin Specialists)

  1. Choose the masks according to your need:

It’s a no brainer that different sheet masks target different types of skin issues like any other product. If an oily skin beauty applies a super hydrating mask, chances are she might break out or get an oiler skin. So choose according to your skin. Whatever your concerns are, there’s something for you.

i.e- Oily skin- Tea Tree Oil;  Acne Prone Skin- Tea Tree Oil, Green Tea;  Troubled/Irritated Skin- Aloe, Bija, Green Tea, Rice, Makgeolli;   25+ – Collagen, Pomegranate (firmness);   Dry skin- Manuka Honey;   Dull Irritated Skin- Green Tea;   Need Brightening- Tomato, Lemon;  Need Purification- Rice, Makgeolli, Seaweed.

To make the whole sheet mask scenario a little clearer, I am discussing how I personally apply sheet masks:

  • While most women around the world apply sheet masks during the morning skincare regimen to flaunt the hydration throughout the day, I personally use them during the night. Firstly because I’m not a morning person, secondly, I stay indoors most of the days and lastly, I feel like the serum is getting to do wonders to my skin while I sleep and I wake up the next morning with a plumped up and super hydrated skin.
  • Never apply them on an unclean face: I actually wanted it to make the 6th mistake point but then I thought that no one can actually sheet mask on a dirty face, can they? While sheet masking on an unclean face is out of question, you might even wanna exfoliate before sheet masking. It actually depends on the amount of time you are sheet masking in a week. For example- I usually sheet mask twice a week (sometimes as often as every day) and I exfoliate once a week, so once I sheet mask after exfoliation, and once after detoxifying with a charcoal pack. If you are someone who sheet mask once in a while, then try doing it post exfoliation. That way your skin can absorb the most of it.
  • Applying serums before the Sheet Mask: Just because you are sheet masking, doesn’t mean you should avoid your regular serum that day, ever heard about serum cocktails? So while the usual regimen says that the serum application goes after the sheet mask, I feel like applying the serum before the sheet mask is more beneficial. That way the goodness of the serum gets locked into the skin along with the goodness of the sheet mask. (This is actually something I learned from Jude Chao from Fifty Shades of Snails)

And lastly, read the instructions before applying the masks. You cannot make the most out of your sheet mask unless you are applying it properly. I hope these informations were helpful. Do drop down a comment if you have any queries and do participate in my Innisfree Giveaway to win some amazing goodies.

Till then,

Bye,

Xoxo

Malavara Lime Vetiver Body Lotion Review

Winter is the perfect excuse to experiment with body lotions. But what if you find your perfect summer friendly body lotion on one of those chilliest days of the year? Disappointing I guess.  Truth is that I have used this body lotion during summer and loved how it absorbed into my skin amazingly. However, when I used it during winter, my skin wasn’t very satisfied.

I wasn’t very much aware of the brand Malavara before I got a set of the body lotion and body wash sample with my Fab Bag. I received them during summer and really loved the refreshing citrus fragrance that was common in both of them.

Product Claims:

Malavara body lotions do not contain Parabens or other harsh preservatives. The preservative system used in our products is very gentle on skin, is
included in the Handbook of Green Chemicals and is Whole Foods Premium Bodycare approved

Packaging:

The sample sized bottle comes in a sturdy packaging with a screw cap and I have no idea how the full-sized product looks like. It’s a bit pain to get the product out of the bottle once the level gets down.

Texture:

Neither too runny, nor too thick.

Price: Rs 1, 500.00  for 300ml

My Experience:

It didn’t take me too long to realise that the lotion is water based. It sinks into the skin with very light massaging and feels far from being greasy on the skin. It feels too light on the skin making the skin silky smooth. When I said that it’s summer perfect, I didn’t just say it because of the fragrance, but also because of the lightweight formula. It’s perfect for people like me who likes to moisturize their skin (both face and body) throughout the year and prefers a lightweight formula during the summer that’s not going to feel greasy on the skin. But it’s definitely not for the winter; it doesn’t have what it takes to please a winter skin, unless you know, beauties with oily skin that like to apply a mild lotion without feeling greasy.

Will I recommend it?

If you are willing to pay a whooping amount for a summer body lotion, yes. If you have an oily skin and looking for a mild body lotion and willing to pay a whooping amount, no.

Will I purchase it?

No, I have my favourites that will cost me less than half the amount.

Pros:

  • Paraben Free
  • Refreshing fragrance
  • Perfect for the summer
  • Absorbs super quick

Cons:

  • Ridiculously priced
  • Doesn’t last long
  • It’s a pain to get the product out once the level gets down.

How to Battle PMS Breakout

PMS can be irritating enough by itself. The mood swings, the crankiness, the cramps, the bloating and the cravings sometimes get too extreme to tolerate. But you can only wish it just stops there. In a lot of cases it doesn’t. I have always had a combination, sensitive skin which didn’t break out much. I don’t know where it went wrong when all of a sudden I started breaking out during PMSing about 2 years ago. Or maybe I do know. Right after I started blogging, I suffered a massive breakout that lasted 3-4 months. What went wrong was that I was using 3 products containing retinol all together. Retinols make the skin sensitive and there are certain instructions to be followed while applying them (i.e: avoid using them during day time, layer it with a thick moisturize, and be very specific about the amount of retinol you are applying). I purchased the products while I was still learning about the ingredients, and got rid of the cartons before I started blogging. The breakout was terrible and after the bottles ran out, I ordered them once again and that’s when I read the box and figured where it went wrong. It took me antibiotics and detoxifications to recover completely. However, the breakout continued giving me major visits a week before my periods. One cystic acne each month, plus tiny bumps and oily skin.

I thought that a lot of women face it, it’s nothing unusual and it can’t be helped. A few months back when I sent a makeup free selfie to a friend I was pointed out that I have an oily skin. When I checked it myself, boy! I did have oily skin around my nose area, my lip area and my cheeks. The cystic acne appeared the next day and that’s when I figured why my skin was oily. I did some research to find out the reason behind women breaking out before getting their periods. It’s a no brainer that the hormones are the culprit, but how? There’s the hormone that gives you the amazing skin during your most fertile days, and there are hormones that starts clogging your pores, and gives you oil breakout, and dehydrates your skin once you ovulate.

So how to combat? The key is to know your cycle properly, and figuring out how do your PMS affect your skin. For example, there are women who get dry dehydrated skin during those days, and there’s women who gets oily, acne prone skin. So the best way is to download any app that tracks your cycle, and spend a month to figure out how your skin is behaving at what time of your cycle. Usually you get the most flawless skin during your most fertile days, your app will tell you when’s the time. The day after your last fertile day is your ovulation day. Most women go through major mood swings that day and that’s when your skin starts behaving terribly. It can differ from one woman to another and it’s up to you to figure out what you and your skin are going through.

So in this article I’ll share how I battled PMS skin successfully. Your symptoms can differ from mine, but I’m sure you’ll get the idea.

For the starter, let me remind you once again that I am a big time Korean Skincare addict. As you guys might know that people who indulges in Korean Skincare doesn’t really use all the products every day. It usually depends on what their skin are asking that particular day. The brightest day in the city might call for a sunscreen with a bigger amount of SPF, the humid day might want a lightweight moisturizer and skipping a couple of serums might be a good option, chilly weathers might want an extra layer of serum and a thick cream. And if you get a look at their skincare stash, you’ll know that it’s more than just likely that they modify their routine every single day.

So I used this habit of mine to battle my PMS breakout. Right after I cross my fertile days, I switch to lightweight formulas and opt for products meant for oily skin. I switched my regular face wash with the Neem Facewash from Oshea for acne prone skin and even though my skin feels a bit tight until I apply my moisturizer, it really is working. (I usually use the face wash after my regular oil cleanser)

Also, I have realized that it’s the perfect time to use up my Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam which gets rid of the excess sebum from deep within the pores . However, I had abandoned it after a few usages because it contains a high pH level. So a couple of times during that week I bring it out to unclog the pores. I guess a couple of usages won’t tamper with the natural pH level of my skin on a permanent basis.

I exfoliate my skin the day I notice the first trace of oil around my nose area. It helps unclog the pores and this step makes a huge difference.  Clogged pore is a common reason for PMS breakout as they feed the acne causing bacteria. Use an exfoliator with tiny granules. And I would personally stay away from apricot scrubs any day.

After exfoliating, I use a charcoal detox face pack. Sometimes I use it right after exfoliating, sometimes I use it on the following day. I feel like it gets rid of the excess sebum from deep within the pores to prevent clogged pores.

The next step, toning, I wouldn’t miss this step for world. It really is important to maintain the pH balance of your skin. You might as well want to avoid a toner containing alcohol, especially if your skin tends to get dry.

And then I avoid using serums to avoid the extra weight on my skin. However, I wouldn’t mind if I had any serum that’s meant for healing, like tea tree oil or something. But the serums that I currently own take no part in battling my PMS skin so I overlook them for a week.

That one time I used a moisturizing sheet mask while PMSing  I got 3 cystic acnes instead of one. It took me a month and a lot of courage for my next experimentation. The next time my skin got oily and there were signs of tiny bumps, I used the Tea Tree Sleeping Mask from Innisfree and my tiny pimples vanished the next morning. Tea Tree Oils are known for healing acne, so if you can, you can incorporate more products containing Tea Tree oil if you tend to breakout in general.

Next step, moisturizer/night cream/Sleeping Pack. This is when I switch my regular creams with gels. The gels absorbs into the skin super quickly without feeling heavy. The Aloe Bija Sleeping Capsule Recipe pack from Innisfree has been really good to me with its super healing power. I use it on alternate nights during that time.

Last but not the least, depriving your skin of the moisturizer will result in your skin trying to compensate by producing more oil than required, thus making you breakout even more. If you think getting rid of moisturizers will help, think again. Also since I don’t want my skin to compensate and punish me, I like to keep a mist handy to spray it on my face whenever my skin feels dry.

And let’s not forget, since our skin becomes extra sensitive those days; be extra careful with the sunscreen.

What I THINK will help if you suffer the opposite- dry skin:

Switch to thicker creams, add an extra layer of serum, and use a moisturizing and hydrating sheet mask.

Since skincare on its own cannot do it all, what else to keep in mind those days?

Drink tons of water and indulge in a high vitamin and low sugar diet. Avoiding foods with high level of fats, oils and diary is a real good choice.

And lastly, stay extra hygienic and stay stress free. J

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask- Tea Tree Review + GIVEAWAY Announcement

Hello everybody, today I’m going to review the Innisfree It’s Real Tea Tree Mask Sheet. So I have talked about how I tend to break out while PMSing and I am overjoyed to tell you guys that I have finally figured a way out. The way out is actually making some changes in my skincare routine during that time of the month which I’m going to share with you guys soon.

So a little heads up, including a healing sheet mask AKA Tea Tree Sheet Mask is one of those changes. Tea Tree oil has been widely known to treat acnes and I have earlier been too impressed with Tonymoly Im Real Tea Tree Face Mask. So just when I noticed that I’m breaking out a little around my lip area and one in the forehead I checked if it’s that time already. These little predictions of mine are too accurate that even though they get a little annoying sometimes, I have learnt how to use these predictions to treat my PMS breakout. So I noticed these tiny pimples during my night time regimen and I knew that it will only grow in the following days like always. Without making any delay I exfoliated my skin, since it will make the serum in the mask easier to absorb. I threw the mask on my face after toning and lay on my bed for about 30 minutes.

The essence was almost transparent and even though there was enough essence on the cotton mask, it wasn’t drippy. The fitting of the mask was not as good as the other masks from the range. It wrinkled up around my nose area making my sheet mask selfie too horrible to upload. Usually my sheet masks dry within 30- 35 minutes but it didn’t. However, I removed it in 30 minutes and noticed a visibly clear skin. The tiny pimples were shrunked and by the next morning they disappeared. Now since I applied it just when my skin started suffering from the oil breakout I can’t really tell how it will work on mature cystic acnes. But the result I noticed was impressive enough. I finished it off with a sleeping pack and unlike any other sheet mask it didn’t make my skin too hydrated the following days. I have heard that tea tree oil makes skin a bit dry and I can’t really tell if that’s true. But my skin was neither dried, nor too moisturized. Also my skin tone didn’t get brightened the way it usually does following sheet masking. I guess I should just be happy with the clear skin.

So will I be purchasing it again? I might as well be using one each month.

Will I recommend it?
