Here’s What Happened When I Started Using A Scalp Scrub

No matter how much I enjoy being a mom, the one thing that I don’t enjoy that came along with motherhood is post-partum hair loss. The first month was a ride through the park, with me still flaunting my pregnancy hair. But then I started shedding so much hair that I got two bald patches near my forehead. I wrote about how I overcame my post-partum hair loss here. But I wish I knew about the benefit of using a scalp scrub back then.

Anyway, even though the hair loss issue was significantly under control, I was still losing hair more than the daily shedding amount. And that got worse during the monsoon. Luckily, one day while I was browsing through reels on Instagram, I came across a reel talking about the benefits of scalp exfoliation. And a light bulb above my head went on. A PR kit from Mcaffeine was sitting idly in my stash and it contained a scalp scrub.

The very next day I had to give it a try. I did a little research and turned out you can exfoliate your scalp physically or chemically. And I have a physical exfoliator in my stash. It can be used both by hand or by scalp exfoliating gadgets. I decided to give it a try with my hands. I started by wetting my hair and parting it in sections, gently massaging the scrub into my scalp.

scalp scrubberThe job of a scalp scrub is to remove the sebum, dead skin, and product build-up from the surface of the scalp so that your hair can enjoy a healthy atmosphere to grow in. I gently scrubbed the dead skin off keeping this in mind. Once it was done, I washed it off with the only shampoo that suits my hair post-baby.

As soon as my hair started air drying, I could tell that my scalp was feeling healthy. I parted my hair and took a picture, and it looked squeaky clean. No traces of the flakes that I had been seeing very recently. The following few days my hair loss was completely under control. And the itchiness that comes with an Indian monsoon disappeared. And the best part was that during the monsoon my hair feels extremely sticky. Like someone has doused it with a glass of caramel sticky. And that stickiness completely disappeared.

Ever since then, I started exfoliating my hair every 7-10 days and I completely forgot what my monsoon hair fall feels like. It has become the one solution to all my monsoon hair problems. I wish I had discovered it sooner, before I lost half my hair volume. But I’m still glad that I discovered it. And I wonder why scalp exfoliation isn’t as popular as skin exfoliation, because it should be.

So far, the Mcaffeine Naked & Raw Coffee Scalp Scrub is the only hair exfoliator I have tried. But I’m really excited to try out more exfoliators- both physical and chemical as well as exfoliating gadgets.

You can check out the Mcaffeine one here. Till then,

Bye. And if you are already into scalp scrubbing, don’t forget to share your experience in the comment section.
