The Art Of Quirky Gifting- Oye Happy

Being new parents is exhausting, draining and tiring. Yes, your heart feels a lot of love, but while the little one takes the front seat of both you and your partner’s lives, romance takes the back seat. I for one can’t remember when was the last time we spoke lovingly to each other. It has lately been plain, matter of fact discussions. Updates on milestones and poops and occasionally there are tears of joy and excitement that we share with each other when our baby learns to do something new.

Due to the pandemic we didn’t have the luxury to get any help, neither from family, nor from hired helps. We have been on our own since the last 7 months, making it more stressful. But it has its own ups along with everything that’s down. Since we both have been freelancing from home from the beginning of the pandemic, neither of us has been unfortunate to miss a single milestones of our baby. His first smile- we’ve both been there, his first words (ma, mamma) -we’ve both been there, his first attempt at crawling-we’ve both been there. And moments like these fill our hearts with joy and pride as we glance at each other with the look on our face that says “We made this!”

As parents, we are thriving, but as a couple- let’s just say we barely talk about anything besides our baby and work. Thus when my birthday approached last month, I decided to gift ourselves some quirky gifts to spice up our life.

I was browsing gifting sites and I came across this site called Oye Happy and they have a wide range of quirky, fun, unique and out of the box gifts. Among other categories, the two that stands out the most are ‘Romantic Hampers’ and ‘Naughty Gifts’. I left the naughty category for some other time and dug into the entire collection of romantic gifts.

‘The Date Planner’ and the ‘You’ve Got Mail’ really caught my eyes and I could really imagine the things that I can do with them.

The Date Planner:

I have to say that the specification was misleading on this one. The website says that there will be 15 coupons in an A4 size jute folder.

However, when I received the package, the jute folder was in no way A4 size. It was way smaller. And I needed an A4 size folder. As someone who lives a sustainable life, I love things that I can recycle when the primary purpose is served. The jute folder looked too pretty and I planned on repurposing as my baby’s Paediatrician folder, but the size that it actually came in cannot be repurposed, at least not by me.

But other than that, the planner was perfect. The jute folder was tied with a Jute String and our initial. Inside was a formal invitation with our names and 15 coupons that we can customize and use in a fun and quirky way.

Lately I’ve been mainly cooking things that can be meal prepped, to better save our times. But we can still have a Candle-Light Dinner with meal prepped food right? The coupon for the candle-lit dinner suggests saving it for an evening with a power-cut. Happens rarely in our area but we can use it any way right? Of course we’ll have to keep the burning candle out of the baby’s reach and make sure we have proper ventilation. But like I always say, a little planning goes a long way. My other two favourite coupons are “You Get To Pick A Movie Of Your Choice” and “ You Get An Evening Of Chai And Conversation”. Not only because we can still do it with our baby, but also because those were our favourite way of spending time together before we had the baby.

You’ve Got Mail:

To be honest, I got the “You’ve Got Mail” purely for the aesthetics. I loved how pretty and minimal it looked. It came in a cute white box. Inside were a small packet of crunchy chocolates, a tiny heart in a bottle and 5 miniature post cards that says:

You make every day a ‘present’ with your presence.

I love you to the sun and back (moon’s too close).

Even when you are in a bad mood, you still look cute.

There is nothing more fun than random conversations with you.

Will you be mine forever, please?

Imagine your better half is a bookwarm and you swap his/her bookmark with a postcard that says “I love you to the sun and back (moon’s too close).”

It’s the small thoughts that count. The small moves that make all the difference. Because no matter how stressful life is, a small quote can make your partner feel valued.

As for me, apart from the jute folder, I’m really happy with the gifts I got us. And I can’t wait to put the postcards and the coupons into action. If you are looking for some quirky gifts too, I would recommend checking out Oye Happy.
