Guest Post: 14 Practical Ways to Look Thinner Than You Really Are

Oh, the struggle of looking perfect! A century ago, being chubby was attractive. But now things have changed.

Some people may be born with skinny genes, while others have to wrestle to be minuscule. You have to get the diet right, the work out right and what not.

It is impossible to follow all the guidelines out there on the internet, so here is a quick and easy guide to make yourself look thinner than you really are!

1. Wide V-Neckline

People with wide hips and thighs can create the illusion of being thin with wide V-neckline tops. Since you are showing skin at the top, it automatically takes attention away from your bottom parts.

It is said that the more the plunge between your chin and chest, the thinner you will appear. So, whenever you’re out shopping for tops, get some v-neck tees, tanks, and dresses!

2. Lingerie That Fits You Perfectly

Getting the right lingerie is very important if you want to look slim. The wrong lingerie will only make you look worse.

Get help from an expert when you are shopping for lingerie. Know the right way to measure yourself, and don’t buy anything without trying them on.

3. Use Accessories

Once you’re done dressing up, accessorize yourself with pretty goodies. Wear a scarf to hide double chins. Buckle up around the waist for a curvier look.

There is no need to go overboard though. A pair of long earrings can give the illusion of a long neck, which can make you appear taller and slimmer as well.

Additionally, long necklaces draw the attention to your middle, away from wide hips, thighs, and stomach. Bracelets and watches are great if you want to draw the attention away from your arms.

4. Choose Vertical Prints

Whatever you do, don’t wear anything with horizontal prints. The horizontal prints will make you look wider, which is not the goal.

To look thinner and elongated, choose dresses, blouses, and pants that have vertical prints on them. If it’s a black and white vertical print style, you will also look polished and sleek.

5. Loose Fit Tops

If your mid area is your biggest concern, don’t wear anything that is too tight or the ones that hug your body. Wear loose fit t-shirts, shirts, and dresses to hide the areas you don’t want to reveal.

You can wear any pants or leggings that fit you. But don’t put on anything loose at the bottom if you don’t want to look like a balloon.

6. Skinny Heels

Skinny heels, especially with pointy toes, will make you an inch or two taller, and look slimmer. Thick, chunky heels will make you taller, but it will make your calves look bulkier.

Hence, pair up your dress with skinny heels with pointy toes. Your calves will not only appear thinner, but it will also get a lift!

7. Inner Shapewear

To compress your mid-section while giving your curves a lift, there is no alternative to inner shapewears. Whether be with a bodycon dress or a combination of tees and pants, you can wear it with anything.

It’s perfect for new moms and chubby people. Even celebrities wear it to events, so you can see how popular it is.

8. Solid, Dark Colors

Having one solid dark color, head to toe, can create the illusion of being slim as well. It can be any shade of dark – green, blue, black and brown.

Dark colors are capable of hiding anything from cellulitis to bulging stomach. This is because our eyes are designed to see darker objects a little bit smaller than lighter objects.

9. Pencil Dresses and Skirts

Pencil dresses and skirts, no matter what color, will make you look skinny and bomb. Pair it up with a tucked blouse, a belt, and a skinny pair of heels – you will be attracting paparazzi!

However, avoid long pencil dresses or skirts, as they hide your ankles. Baring some ankles will automatically make you look slimmer in anything!

10. Get a Tan

Getting a tan, whether fake or real, can make a big difference in the way you look. Not only will the tan hide your stretch marks, cellulitis, and veins, it will also make you look slimmer.

You can get any type of tan, but be careful. You don’t want to burn yourself too much under the sun or get skin irritation from fake tans. Consult with a professional for the best results.

11. Right Fabric

The fabric of your clothes can either make you look fab or drag. So, what fabrics should you wear to look fab?

Fine cotton, cashmere, jersey, and spandex will give you shape and contour, making you look slimmer. Denim and silk are also good if you want to look petite.

12. Hair Updos

We have been going on and on about clothes. Now it’s time to change your appearance with hairstyles.

First of all, hair updos can make your face look way slimmer that usual. On the other hand, if you want to hide your chubby cheeks and neck, try going for a sleek, straight hair look. It won’t disappoint you.

13. High Waist Jeans

Jeans will never grow old. And you can wear them any way you want to.

For now, to look slim and tall, you can get high waist jeans. Match the right belt to cinch around the waistline along with it.

Your curves will protrude, and you will look like a goddess! Lastly, leave a little skin out at the ankles for the ultimate look.

14. Straight Posture

Finally, our last advice on looking slender is to stand and sit up straight. Always.

Your posture can ruin the work you put on trying to look slimmer. Maintain a straight posture, and you don’t have to worry about looking fat ever again.

The right posture will also boost your level of confidence and exude power. You won’t be able to stop heads turning towards you!

Final Thoughts

Looking good has never been as important as it is now. At the same time, we are also living in the age of body positivity.

The good thing about that is that you are accepted no matter how you are – short, tall, thin or fat. Regardless, some people still choose to mold themselves to a certain body type, which is totally their personal choice.

Hopefully, this article was helpful to those wishing to look slimmer. Follow the steps and go, conquer the world!
