TUA Dance & Dine Kolkata: A New Pan-Asian Dining Destination for Food, Cocktails & After-Dark Vibes
Kolkata has no shortage of places to eat, but finding a restaurant that gets Japanese cuisine, cocktails, ambience and the whole evening-out experience right is another story altogether.
And when it comes to authentic Japanese cuisine, the struggle is even more real.
So when I heard about TUA Dance & Dine, a new contemporary Pan-Asian dining destination on Lee Road, I was intrigued. TUA brings together food, cocktails, music and nightlife under one roof, with the idea that dinner doesn’t necessarily have to be the end of the evening.
We recently spent an evening there, and with a table full of our Japanese favourites, a couple of interesting drinks and an indulgent dessert at the end, it turned out to be quite the experience.
TUA Dance & Dine: Where Dinner Meets Nightlife

Located at Altitude Business Park on 2 Lee Road, TUA is designed to be more than just a restaurant.
The concept is simple but rather refreshing — you can start your evening with dinner, move on to cocktails, settle into the music and, as the night progresses, find yourself on the dance floor.
The interiors have a contemporary, sophisticated feel, with the central bar naturally becoming one of the focal points of the space. As the evening progresses, the atmosphere gets livelier, making TUA equally suited to a dinner date, a night out with friends or one of those evenings when you don’t actually want to decide beforehand when the night should end.

But, of course, for us the biggest attraction was the food.
The Japanese Food at TUA
As someone who absolutely loves Japanese cuisine, I am always a little cautious when a restaurant describes itself as serving Pan-Asian food. Japanese cuisine can so easily get diluted when it is combined with multiple Asian influences.
Thankfully, that wasn’t my experience at TUA.
Authentic Japanese cuisine is surprisingly hard to find in Kolkata, particularly when you’re looking for quality ingredients and flavours that don’t feel overly Indianised. TUA’s Japanese offerings stood out for their attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients. Honestly, just the taste of their Wasabi, and I knew I am up for an authentic Japanese delight.
We ended up trying quite a bit from the menu.
Chicken Yakitori
We started with the Chicken Yakitori, and it was a lovely way to begin the meal. The grilled chicken was tender and flavourful, with that characteristic smoky, slightly charred quality that makes yakitori such a comforting Japanese favourite.
It was simple, well-executed and perfect alongside the drinks.
Grilled Jumbo Prawn
The Grilled Jumbo Prawn was another highlight. The prawns were substantial, juicy and cooked beautifully without losing their natural sweetness.
This is one of those dishes where the quality of the main ingredient really matters, and thankfully, the prawns delivered.
Sushi, Sushi & More Sushi

Of course, no Japanese meal is complete for us without sushi — and we may have gone slightly overboard here!
We tried the:
- Spicy Salmon Sushi
- Teriyaki Chicken Sushi
- Prawn Tempura Sushi
The Spicy Salmon Sushi was particularly enjoyable for its combination of fresh salmon and a little heat, while the Prawn Tempura Sushi brought that satisfying contrast between crispy tempura and soft sushi rice.
The Teriyaki Chicken Sushi was a nice option for anyone who prefers cooked meat over raw fish.
If you’re visiting with a group, I’d definitely recommend ordering a selection rather than sticking to just one variety. Sushi is one of those things that is simply more fun when the entire table gets to try a little bit of everything.
Katsu Chicken Curry
The Katsu Chicken Curry was another comforting dish on the table.
Crispy chicken paired with Japanese-style curry is one of those combinations that manages to feel indulgent without being overwhelmingly heavy. The curry had a lovely depth of flavour and worked particularly well with the crisp chicken.
If you’re someone who thinks Japanese food is all about sushi, this is a good reminder that there is so much more to explore.
Teriyaki Grilled Salmon

The Teriyaki Grilled Salmon was another dish that caught our attention.
The salmon was cooked well, retaining its softness while picking up the sweet-savoury notes of the teriyaki glaze. It was one of the more substantial dishes we tried and a good choice if you’re looking beyond small plates and sushi.
The Concept Cocktails
Now, TUA isn’t just about food.
Their cocktail programme has been designed around a rather interesting concept, with cocktails inspired by imagined future eras and different chapters of what the future of drinking could look like.
We tried A Cherry on the Top, and honestly, it was mind-blowing.

It was one of those cocktails that doesn’t just taste good but makes you pause for a moment and figure out what’s going on in the glass. The presentation, flavours and overall concept made it one of the most memorable parts of the evening.
We also tried one of their refreshing mocktails, which was a lovely option when we wanted something lighter and non-alcoholic since one of us had to be the designated driver.
The drinks here are clearly intended to be an experience rather than simply something you order alongside your food — and that fits perfectly with TUA’s larger philosophy.
Japanese Cotton Cheesecake for Dessert
By the time dessert arrived, we were already very well fed, but there is always room for dessert.
We finished with the Japanese Cotton Cheesecake, which was exactly what the name promises — soft, airy and wonderfully light.

Unlike the denser cheesecakes we’re used to, Japanese cotton cheesecake has that almost cloud-like texture, making it an ideal ending to a meal that already involved quite a lot of food.
Our Verdict
What I enjoyed most about TUA is that it doesn’t seem to be trying to fit itself into one particular category.
It isn’t just a restaurant. It isn’t just a cocktail bar. And it isn’t just a nightlife destination.
It is designed around the idea of letting an evening naturally evolve.
You can arrive for dinner, take your time over sushi and cocktails, stay for the music and, if the mood strikes, continue the night on the dance floor.
And for us, the food was what really made the evening worthwhile.
Good-quality Japanese cuisine can be surprisingly difficult to find in Kolkata, and TUA is definitely one of the newer places that Japanese food lovers should have on their radar. From the sushi and grilled prawns to the salmon, yakitori and Katsu curry, the emphasis on quality ingredients and contemporary presentation was evident throughout our meal.
Add an interesting cocktail programme, a stylish setting and a lively after-dark atmosphere, and you have a destination that works for both dinner and a night out.
If you’re looking for somewhere new in Kolkata where you can eat well, experiment with cocktails and not have to rush home as soon as dinner is over, TUA Dance & Dine is worth checking out.
