Purito Galacto Niacin 97 Power Essence Review
Hey guys, long time no see! As some of you might know that I had been suffering from a horrible pregnancy; my skin had been completely deprived of any care. However, since I started feeling a little better, I started compensating for all the damages my skin suffered during the course of the past 7-9 months. My husband had been suffering from severe chest pain and after coming back from a trip he was diagnosed with gall stones. For 2 months straight our days were spent visiting hospital for appointments, tests and finally his surgery. While he was recovering and we were planning to get back to our respective work fields, I found out I am pregnant and a week later I was diagnosed with Hypermesis Gravidarum and I ended up hospitalized due to severe dehydration, starvation and blood vomiting. If you don’t know what HG is, it’s a severe form of morning sickness only 1000times worse and is life threatening. Let alone taking care of my skin I could only shower on my husband’s day offs as I couldn’t walk to the bathroom alone. Unlike normal morning sickness it doesn’t go away after first trimester and only goes away after 5th month if you are lucky, and sometimes can last not only until, but after the childbirth. In my case I started feeling better at 5th month *touchwood* and when the horrible ordeal was somewhat over, I stood in front of the mirror to look at a dehydrated and damaged skin reflection. Pregnancy symptoms are always different for all mothers and as for me; I haven’t seen a single positive effect. Let alone the highly raved ‘pregnancy glow’, I got ‘Chloasma Gravidarum’ (as if Hypermesis Gravidarum wasn’t enough) which is discoloured face during pregnancy. My whole face has dark patches here and there and at month 4 my face broke out horribly right before Durga Puja. It was so bad that I couldn’t sleep due to the pain.
Anyway, before this entire ordeal began and before my husband was diagnosed with Gall Stone, Purito approached me to review their products. I was so glad because I have always wanted to try this brand. I chose their Galacto Niacin 97 Power Essence as I’ve always loved both the ingredients. However it was only after like 6 months that I got to open the package. I started using it while I was 4 month pregnant, after a 6 month period of no skincare at all (add the days of my husband’s treatment along with my pregnancy). At that point my skin was dull, dehydrated, had discoloured patches and had recently suffered from a horrible breakout. Also I wasn’t using many other products: an Indian face wash from my mom’s stash, a toner I had been using for a long time and an aloe gel, so any good or bad effect and I know this particular product is the reason.
So let’s get to the review. Purito is a brand that defines ‘Pure’. Their ingredient lists are pure and simple: paraben free, alcohol free, colorant free, fragrance free and most importantly cruelty free. Their outer packagings are classy, matte brown cardboard box without any plastic wrap, so they’ll decompose easily.
Ingredients:
Galactomyces ferment filtrate (92%), niacinamide (5%), 1,2-hexanediol, viscum album (mistletoe) leaf extract, bifida ferment lysate, lactobacillus ferment, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, arginine, allantoin, adenosine, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, disodium EDTA
My experience:
Like I already said, when I started using this product, it had a lot of jobs to do. And it kindda did; just within a few days after I started using it, the dullness subsided very quickly and my skin was nicely hydrated. But with a galactomyces product, you want brightening effect, and that wasn’t very visible at first. With continuous usage, my skin got a little brighter but not that significant. Probably my skin is producing more melanin during the pregnancy (which actually causes the discoloration during pregnancy). However, the recent acne scars healed in no time. The discoloration is still there though, and I guess I’ll need some more powerful products for that but I’m scared of using chemical exfoliators or any other strong product during the pregnancy.
That being said, I loved how quickly it recovered my skin from the 6 months of damage even though it failed to help fight the discoloration (probably wasn’t its job though). It also didn’t break me out and my skin had actually been good to me ever since I started using it.
I’ll recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a boost of hydration. It will probably suit all type of skin because it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. Though the texture is slippery, it glides smoothly into the skin. I’m eager to see how it works on my skin post pregnancy because I’m guessing it didn’t do much to brighten my skin due to the melanin production.
Pros:
- Absorbs easily and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin
