I Tried Korean Facial Yoga And Here’s What Happened
Almost a decade ago, when I got lost in the Korean Beauty world, my obsession went beyond just the Korean Skincare Products. I explored every Korean Beauty hack I could think of. From not using a towel on the face, to eating fermented food, to trying facial yoga- I tried it all and stuck with what worked the best for me. I discussed beauty with Korean friends. And when my friend Song was visiting India I would spend hours at the cafe talking about products Korean people actually use.
Song works for Amore Pacific and I got a huge insight into the overall Beauty Philosophy of the Korean people. I learned what brands they actually use, and what brands were born to cater to the western K-Beauty fad. His wife visits the facialist 4 times a month he would say. Exactly what I read in a lot of articles before. While we don’t have that kind of luxury here in Kolkata, I did research a bit about Korean Facial Yoga.
However, it wasn’t until very recently that I learned the miracle that it can do to your skin. You see, when I ignored my skincare routine for over a couple of years, the damage that it did seemed beyond repair. While there were beauty products that took care of issues like uneven skin, loss of hydration, pregnancy hyperpigmentation, baby scratches, nothing seemed to do anything for the loss of volume that my skin went under. It seemed like a thin layer of skin was hanging on top of my facial bones. My skin looked hollow and mere products didn’t seem to do anything to combat the issue. I read that in taking collagen supplements can be beneficial. However, I wasn’t sure about that since I’m breastfeeding.
By this point in my life as a mother, I had almost forgotten everything that I learned while exploring the Korean beauty philosophy. I wasn’t eating superfoods for skin anymore. I was eating superfoods for breastfeeding. Motherhood took over my life in such a way that I basically forgot what life was like before Seiji. And then he started growing up, and he learned to play by himself. It was at that point that I started having some time for myself. I started researching how to combat collagen loss without taking collagen supplements. And that’s when I realized that I was forgetting about something very important. I was forgetting about Facial Yoga.
I started searching for Facial Yoga that would work for me. And I specifically searched for Korean Facial Yoga. I came across this Korean Skin Influencer who goes by Glow With Ava. Her mom and she are skin goals and she shares skincare tips on her Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, and her blog. Skincare tips that she learned throughout her life- from her mom, her grandma, and licensed aestheticians. I focused on this do-along facial yoga on Youtube and started doing it every single day.
The entire exercise consists of a few easy steps that include some lymphatic drainage massage and some acupressure points. It took only about 10-15 minutes in the beginning. Overtime when I got the hang of it, I started doing it without watching the video and now it takes about 5-7 minutes utmost.

So when I first started doing facial yoga, it took me just 4 days to start noticing visibly plumper skin. I could feel the volume underneath my skin. I would honesty post my dramatic before and after picture but I would hate to see my pictures being used for scam ads on the internet. Over time my skin started looking healthy and I could feel the elasticity of my skin. Ava calls it Jello Skin. My skin isn’t bouncy like her and it’ll be a long way until it is. But that’s what I’m aiming for right now.
And then there was a period when I wasn’t doing very well mental health-wise. And I stopped taking care of my skin once again. My skin eventually lost the newfound volume and it was also severely dehydrated. It was maybe 3 months or 4, but I finally decided to beat my depression for good and I beat it the best way that I know of- skincare/self-love. I ordered some amazing products to lure me back into the world of skincare and I dived right back. It’s been 3 days that I resumed my facial yoga exercise and overall my skincare routine. And here’s how’s my skin looking today without any makeup, filter, or editing.
I could feel my skin gain back the volume. And the best part? I am on my way back from the hell called depression.
So that’s it for today! In my next article, I’ll talk about my favorite creams and oils to do facial yoga with.
Bye XOXO
