An Ode to Grace and Timeless Beauty: House of Chikankari

Chikankari, an ancient and intricate embroidery style, holds a special place in the realm of traditional Indian craftsmanship. Originating from the culturally rich city of Lucknow, this delicate art form has captivated the world with its elegance and intricate designs.

Chikankari finds its roots in the Mughal era, dating back over 400 years. It is believed to have been introduced in Lucknow by Noor Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir. Originally, Chikankari adorned the attire of the royal court, and its exquisite beauty soon spread beyond the palace walls. Eventually becoming popular among the nobility and eventually reaching the masses.

The Art Of Chikankari

The art of Chikankari is a painstaking process that requires skilled artisans to work with precision and finesse. It involves intricate white thread embroidery on fine muslin or cotton fabric. The motifs range from delicate florals, paisleys, and vines to geometrical patterns and human figures. The embroidery is done using a combination of stitches, including the famous “shadow work” technique. Which creates an illusion of shadows by using fine threads on the underside of the fabric.

Chikankari is more than just embroidery; it is an art form that embodies elegance, grace, and timeless beauty. The intricate patterns and delicate stitches not only enhance the fabric but also tell stories of rich cultural heritage. Each piece of Chikankari is a labor of love, meticulously crafted by skilled artisans who have mastered the art passed down through generations.

Despite its ancient origins, Chikankari continues to be relevant and cherished in modern fashion. The timeless appeal of this art form has transcended borders, making its way onto international runways and finding a place in the wardrobes of fashion enthusiasts around the world. Designers are incorporating Chikankari in contemporary silhouettes, blending tradition with modernity.

In recent years, there has been a renewed focus on preserving and promoting Chikankari. Various organizations and artisans’ cooperatives are working tirelessly to uplift the craftsmen and women involved in this art form. Efforts are being made to provide training and opportunities to the younger generation. Thus ensuring the continuation of this intricate art form for years to come.

One of the most notable brand among them is House Of Chikankari.

My Experience Shopping With House Of Chikankari:

Fashion for me is all about comfort! And very recently I have been looking forward to add some mulmul straight Kurta in my wardrobe. And that’s exactly how I came across House Of Chikankari.

When I first browsed their website, the price did seem a bit on the higher side, but once I received my order, it was all worth it.

Shopping from House Of Chikankari is as easy as it gets. Their categories are divided for men and women section, with the drop down category of the items product wise, fabric wise and collection wise.

In women’s section they have Kurtas, short Kurtis, kaftans, sarees, dupattas, bottoms and dresses. And in the men’s section they have kurta’s and bottoms.

Like I said, I have been meaning to buy a mulmul long kurta so I got the Zainab Chikankari Mulmul Straight Kurta in color grey.

Delivery:

I got my order within 4 days after I placed it. It came in a string chikankari bag, wrapped in a sustainable outer package. The material is so soft, I have never worn anything like it. And trust me when I say this because I live in probably the most humid (and hot) region of India and I wore it in a summer afternoon. It’s so lightweight, and breezy I honestly feel like adding more mulmul chikankari kurta in my wardrobe and wearing them all summer.
