How are Menstrual Cups a perfect savior for your periods? Sirona Menstrual Cup Review

Ever since I started having my periods my one concern was how to get a mess-free period. I had a horrible leakage issue no matter what pad I used to wear. I used to dream of inventing a cup that would store all the menstrual blood without any spillage.

Fast forward to 2018 January, I got introduced to a sustainable lifestyle. I spent my fair share of time researching how to cut down waste when one day I came across the existence of menstrual cups. Turned out my teenage dream has come to a reality. Over the course of 3 years, I tried several brands until I came across the Sirona Menstrual Cups which was just the right cup for me. It was everything a teenage me dreamt the cup would be.

THE MENSTRUAL CUP

The Sirona Reusable Menstrual Cup is made of medical-grade silicone and creates a vacuum seal against the vaginal wall. It is toxin-free and allergy-free which means no rashes or itchiness. You can wear the cup for 8 hours straight without any leakage. It is one of the best Menstrual Cups that you can use.

SUSTAINABILITY:

An average woman uses around 16,000 or more tampons in her lifetime. Whereas a single menstrual cup can last up to 10 years. So in retrospect, a menstrual cup has the potential to save about 5333 tampons from going into the landfills, decomposing for thousands of years. It’s one of the main reasons I switched to using menstrual cups in the first place.

COMFORT:

While sustainability was the main reason behind the switch I can’t overlook the perks it came with. Let me tell you, that I’ve become so comfortable using cups that when I was a few days post-partum and I wasn’t allowed to wear cups it felt really, really uncomfortable using pads. In just 3 years I forgot how uncomfortable pads can get.  The rashes, the constant friction, it was a nightmare!

One of the best parts of switching to menstrual cups is the 3rd and 4th days of periods. When the flow gets light enough to make you uncomfortable even wearing a pad, but is still there so you have to grind your teeth and just keep them on! But with the cups you just don’t even feel like they are there. So you can just keep them on until your periods completely go away.

How to maintain Sirona Menstrual Cup:

The Sirona Menstrual cups are really easy to maintain. It comes with a hygiene storage box. You just need to sterilize it once your periods are over. And then again, before putting it on the next month.

How to use Sirona Menstrual Cup:

Learning how to properly place and remove the cup can be a little tricky! But once you get the hang of it, it becomes so natural that it doesn’t seem like work at all. Honestly, the first time that I tried to remove the cup, I thought that it got stuck up there and I have to rush to the hospital. I won’t lie, I received frantic calls from each person I introduced menstrual cups to, saying it got stuck up there and they are considering going to the hospital.

So if you ever had that kind of an experience, you are not alone. The key is to concentrate on the suction.

To place it on the vaginal wall, you have to squat down, relax, fold the ring in a C shape and insert it on the vaginal walls. Once there, the ring will unfold creating a suction. Make sure to use a clean finger to double-check if the ring has unfolded properly. Once it didn’t and I ended up with leakage issues.

To take off the cup you have to break that suction. Squat down, and with a clean finger break the vacuum seal. Once the suction is broken, grip the base and slowly pull it out.

On a heavy flow day, try to empty the cup every 3 hours.

Where to Buy:
