Battling Post Partum Hair Loss With Customized Hair Care: Freewill
If there was one way to get my pregnancy hair back, I would leave no stone unturned to get it back. I flaunted my dream hair throughout my second and third trimester and even a few weeks after I gave birth. For the first time in my life I had volume and soft curls, and I have dreamt of the later my entire life. However like all good things, it came to an end. A few weeks after giving birth my soft curls started getting flat and what followed was worse- postpartum hair loss. It just went from bad to worse to worst. There was loose hair balled up throughout my apartment. But the worst part started when my baby learnt to grab things, and his fascination with grabbing my hair is just next level. Within a fraction of second he would grab my hair and there will be loose strands of hair all over him. Also since he doesn’t sleep unless we co-sleep, we found loose strands of hair on his body on numerous occasion, it just became so bad that I decided to chop my hair off. However, before this decision was taken I tried everything, from massaging my scalp with anti-hair fall oil to changing all my hair care products. I even became too serious about my iron supplements but when nothing worked I chopped off one third of my hair length and had been eagerly waiting for my baby’s rice ceremony after which I’ve decided to go above shoulder length.
While I waited to chop off my beloved hair I was introduced to the customized shampoos from Freewill.
Their brand is based on the philosophy that each individual is unique and their products should be uniquely created. The consumer is supposed to take a hair quiz and their systems analyzes the response
and create a product that has the power to solve each hair problem and fulfil the hair goals.
Scrolling through their website I came across the ingredients they use and I was impressed to say the
least. They use
Avocado- which rejuvenates and moisturises
Hydrolyzed wheat protein- which conditions and repairs damage
Murumuru butter- which is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits
Passion Fruit- which forms collagen and prevents hair breakage
Bentonite Purple clay –which removes dead cells and cleanses the scalp
Tea Tree Oil- which removes fungi and bacteria
Chia seeds- which provides protein for hair growth
Accai Berry- which is rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 and reduces hair loss
Apricot fruit extract- which is known for its emollient and anti-inflammatory effect
Argan oil- Which boost growth cells and hair growth
Blueberry Fruit extract- which improves oxygenation
Babasu Oil- which is known for cell regeneration and cooling sensation
Silk protein- which moisturises and repairs damaged hair
Pea protein- which is known for its anti-aging and reconstructive effect.
Macademia nut oil- which detangles hair and works as an anti-frizz
Lemongrass oil- which has anti bacterial effect and strengthens the hair shaft.
I mean that’s some class in hair care and the ingredients were too alluring to not give it a try. I took the quiz which was in 3 parts. The first part covered the hair type, texture and scalp while the second part
covered other aspects like the treatment and appliance we use on our hair and the region the product will be used. The last part focuses on hair goals.
My sister and I inherited fine, flat hair from our mom, and as much as we adore it, volume is something that is of concern, especially when we go through hair fall problems. Which is the only hair problem I’m facing. According to my hair analysis I need volumnizing shampoo and a lightweight conditioner and I need to avoid heavy oils and butter.
The ingredients that were specifically allotted to my products were Vitamin E, pro-vitamin B and Biotin. I chose the color green and my products were done. The set of shampoo, conditioner and serum costed Rs1650 as there was some discount running.
My Experience:
When I ordered the products I honestly didn’t expect much as I’ve read in numerous articles that postpartum hair loss can’t be helped. But boy I was blown away! After the first usage I noticed miracle. Not only was my hair super soft and glossy, there were not 1 hair strand on my comb while normally there’s hundreds after each time I comb. Our house help was really happy when she cleaned my room. The second day went well too. However from third day I started noticing few strands on my comb and on the floor where I combed. But that’s way, way better than the amount I had been losing all this while. Also due to the humidity in my region I had been noticing sticky and frizzy hair for the first time in my life and that’s another problem that these products took care of. I did however lost a lot of hair while shampooing like I lose while shampooing with any other product.
Overall, I’m very, very impressed with the products and not switching anytime soon. I’m also ordering them for my mum and my sister.
Pros:
Customized according to each individual
Gives a sense of personalization
Reduced my post-partum hair loss
Cons:
There should be an option to get the shampoo and conditioner without the serum because the shampoo will last around a couple of months while it takes me more than a year to finish a serum bottle.
