Guest Post: How to Get Rid of Bags Under Eyes and Dark Circles the Affordable Way
One of the most obvious signs of fatigue is the classic dark undereye circles. For many women, it’s a source of incredible annoyance because not only are you tired, but the signs are right there for the world to see. Furthermore, with the stress of life, work and family, sleep often becomes a luxury and these bags become an almost permanent feature on our faces.
Fortunately, they aren’t actually permanent and you can quite easily work your way around them or get rid of them completely.
Here are some approaches to dealing with undereye bags and dark circles:
1. Hydration
Hydration is an important factor to consider because dehydration can lead to water retention which can lead to puffy, under eye bags.
With this in mind, you should stay hydrated by drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces every day. For example, if you currently weigh 200 pounds, you’ll need to drink at least 100 ounces of water.
If necessary, set a timer on your phone to remind yourself to drink. You may need to go to the bathroom a lot in the beginning, but over time, your body will adjust and you won’t need to go as often.
Also, in the mornings, don’t reach for the coffee first. Boil a cup of water and squeeze in some fresh lemon juice. Lemon juice has many health benefits and will energize the body. Once you drink that cup of lemon water, do your best to drink another bottle of water before reaching for your first cup of coffee.
In fact, if you can avoid coffee, that’s even better because caffeine dehydrates the skin.
2. Affordable, Drugstore Concealers
Most drugstore concealers work fine for dark circles, and though they are a only temporary fix, they can easily serve as a lifesaver for many women who are in the trenches with an important event coming up. The key is to buy one that works well with your skin tone.
It should brighten and lighten the skin under your eyes. As a result, it will cancel out any dark circles. You also need to be cognizant of the pressure you use to apply the concealer as this can make the bags worse. When it’s time to apply the product, dip your finger in the container and lightly tap the under-eye area.
Quick tip: When you use your ring finger, you’re less likely to use a lot of pressure.
3. Tea Bags
Remember we spoke about caffeine earlier? Well, it’s time to put it to good use. Caffeine is a mild diuretic which can be used to reduce eye puffiness.
Simply soak two tea bags in warm water, let them sit in the refrigerator for a few minutes to cool, and then place one on each eye for five minutes.
Use green or black tea bags
4. Use a Retinol Cream
Another potential reason for dark circles is thin skin around the periorbital area. This thin skin makes the blood and blood vessels underneath much more visible, giving the impression of a darker area compared to the surrounding skin.
Retinol creams help to stimulate collagen production which will thicken the skin over time. Thankfully, these creams are very expensive, costing under $20 in most cases.
They can also be used on a variety of other skin problems you may have.

Sleep On Your Back
Sleeping on your face can introduce a long list of skin problems and bags under your eyes is just one. If you realize that they tend to show up more in the mornings, try sleeping on your back because the reason for your bags may be the pooling of fluid in your periorbital area.
You can improve this further by using an extra pillow to raise your head further.
I love using chilled tea bags. It is a great way to unwind plus banish those undereye bags.
Nice tips. Chilled tea bags work really well for dark circles. And cucumber slices too…
