K-Beauty Mini Sample And Sheet Mask Haul

Hey guys, hope you all are doing well. I’ve done a mini sample and sheet mask haul from cosmetic-love.com as it’s time for me to travel again. It’s going to be my first solo tour as well as my spinster trip and as you guy know how I love packing sample-size and travel-size products while travelling, I ordered a few things I didn’t have in tiny sizes.

Starting with sheet masks, because why not? I know I already have enough in my stash to pack one for each day during my trip but I don’t need any excuse to stock up on them.

  • Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack: I had been eying this product for a long time. I first ordered this last September but didn’t receive it. When I mailed them for re-order it was OOS (and I got a refund). So finally I got my hands on this and I have such high hopes.
  • Missha Real Tencel Sheet Mask: Missha happens to be a beloved brand of mine. However I never tried any sheet mask from them. I hope it’s as good as their essences.
  • Etude House Moistful Cream Collagen: 10ml x 2PCS- Again one of my most favourite K-Beauty brands. Etude House products reminds me of dollhouses. I have heard wonderful things about the Moistful range and I couldn’t help but apply it on my face even before I set out for my trip. I love it already. I’m going to purchase the full-size version soon.
  • Missha Chogongjin Eye Cream – Another Missha product. I’m touring for 11 days and I got a 10 set sample of which I already used one. I sample will last you only two usages so I don’t have to worry about the messiness.
  • Tonymoly Tomato Magic Massage Pack- It was freebie sample that I received with one previous order as well. Even though I would have loved to try out new products as samples but I am fine with these ones as well. They came to my rescue when I got severely tanned in Andaman despite of re-applying sunscreen every 3 hours. I tanned at least 2-3 shades darker and whenever I applied this pack I de-tanned to some extent, not too much but enough to recognize myself in the mirror.

So that’s everything I purchased this time, I’m so looking forward to my trip as well as am anxious because I haven’t travelled alone ever before. This time I’m taking my boyfriend’s camera because his viewfinder rotates and probably I’ll have to click my own pictures this time (except for the times I’m meeting up with my sister and my friends that resides over there).  Also can’t wait to review the products I purchased. Till then… Bye… XOXO

It’s Real Squeeze Mask-Strawberry Review

My reviews of Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask range has almost come to an end. After reviewing a lot of my amazing finds from the range I will share a disappointment today- Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Strawberry. I have reviewed almost every mask from the range (except for the bija) and I guess you guys are quite familiar with the range, so this one is going to be real quick.

What it is

Get supple and translucent skin with the strawberry It’s real squeeze mask!

1. It’s real squeeze mask – strawberry
Strawberry helps make your skin bright and supple.

2. Jeju green complex
The Jeju green complex consists of green tea, tangerine, cactus, camellia leaves, and orchids to keep your skin healthy.

3. Triple-layered sheet
This triple-layer sheet has a long-lasting moisturizing effect so that the essence can gradually be absorbed into the skin.

How to use

  1. After washing your face, gently apply toner on your face to even out your skin texture.
    2. Then, apply the mask over your entire face, avoiding your eye and lip areas.
    3. Remove the mask after 10-20 minutes and gently pat your face to allow the remaining formula to absorb into your skin.

Price:  100Rs

Where to buy?

Nykaa

My Experience:

As usual I used the sheet mask post exfoliating and kept it on for about 30 minutes. The sheet was soaked in a LOT of essence and the fitting was just like any other mask from the range-almost perfect. Upon removing the mask my skin was excessively moisturized. The essence on my face took a lot of time to absorb unlike any other sheet mask. My skin was immensely hydrated and moisturized throughout the following days. It has to be the best moisturizing mask from the range. However, having a combination skin, moisturization is not one of my concerns and I was a bit disappointed as it did not do anything besides moisturizing. It claims brightening but I did not notice any. So overall, it can be an amazing mask for dry skin beauties but for combination and oily skin beauties might not be as impressed.

Pros:

  • Moisturizes
  • Pocket Friendly

Cons:

  • Does not brighten.

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask – Pomegranate Review

Hey guys, I haven’t reviewed any K-beauty products for a while and I’m here to compensate for that. Today I’ll be reviewing the Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Pomegranate. Now even though my first concern while sheet masking is brightness, I am well aware that it’s about time I start using anti-aging products as well. To be very honest, I haven’t incorporated any anti-aging products in my regimen permanently but from time to time I indulge in firming treatments- like sheet masks and facials and stuff. Pomegranate is known for its skin firming benefits and thus it had its due share in my regimen.

My Experience:

Just like any other sheet mask, I used it after exfoliating my skin and kept it on for about 30 minutes. The fitting was a little terrible than the other sheet masks from the same range which is weird. The mask was still wet while I took it off and my face was immensely hydrated and supple. There was no brightening effect and the product did not claim any. The following morning my skin was firm and nourished and behaved well for the following days.

Will I purchase it again?

Given to the fact that I haven’t started any thorough anti-aging regimen yet, I might as well take help from this mask from time to time.

Will I recommend it?

To anyone who is 25+

Pros:

  • Does what it claims
  • Travel friendly
  • Pocket Friendly

Cons:

  • No brightening effect

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask- Rose Review

After my rant about sheet mask mistakes yesterday, I thought it would only be appropriate to review a sheet mask today. So yesterday I was going through my mask stash and since my skin wasn’t asking for anything specific yesterday I went ahead with the one much underrated by me- Innisfree It’s Real Rose Sheet Mask. I don’t know why but I really did not have too much expectation from this particular mask, but at the end of the day I was proven wrong.

What it is

Get supple and radiant skin with the rose It’s real squeeze mask!
1. It’s real squeeze mask – ros
Fragrant roses provide moisture to your skin to make it supple and smooth.

How to use:

  1.  After washing your face, gently apply toner on your face to even out your skin texture.
    2. Then, apply the mask over your entire face, avoiding your eye and lip areas.
    3. Remove the mask after 10-20 minutes and gently pat your face to allow the remaining formula to absorb into your skin.

Price: MRP 100Rs

Ingredients list: Water, glycerin, butylene glycol, alcohol, betaine, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) fruit extract, rosa centifolia flower juice, xanthan gum, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, ethylhexylglycerin, sodium hyaluronate, citrus unshiu peel extact, orchid extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, camellia japonica leaf extract, opuntia coccinellifera fruit extract, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, fragrance

My CosDNA analysis came up pretty clean with only butylene glycol raising a low 1 potential acne trigger. But then a lot of products contains bulylene glycol and my skin never reacted badly to it.

My Experience:

It was probably the first sheet mask that I tried during my morning regimen as a part of my experiment. I’ve been reading about how K-beauty enthusiasts apply them on the morning and then finish it off with a moisturizer and then with a sunscreen and flaunt the hydration throughout the day. I kept the sheet mask on for about 30 minutes and it was still wet while I took it off. The fitting was average and the rose smell was too pleasant.

The moisturizer that I’ve been using for a couple of weeks now feels too heavy on my skin (review coming soon). So after I took off the mask my skin was immensely hydrated but after using the moisturizer I didn’t notice anything except for the hydration. After I washed my face during my night time regimen, the heavy feeling from the moisturizer went away and the radiance and brightening effect were noticeable. The hydration lingered when I woke up the next day (today) and the radiance is still noticeable while I’m writing this post, though not too dramatic but enough to make me feel guilty to avoid it for so long.

Will I purchase it again?

Sure it won’t be my first choice while sheet mask hauling the next time, but if I’m picking up a bunch, it certainly will be in my cart.

Will I recommend it?

To anyone who wants moisture+hydration+radiance

5 Sheet Mask Mistakes You Are Probably Making

K-beauty is still a relatively new concept in India compared to the western world. And who can you blame? Apart from the fact that Indian Women usually don’t indulge in much skincare, India also lacks the abundance of the amazing products that South Korea has to offer. We only have Innisfree and The Face Shop (very recently launched) to at least get the idea what the ravings are all about. Sometimes we hear the ravings (and criticism) from the mouth of people who have used only a couple of products from the above mentioned brands (no disregard meant) but are yet to get their hands on the much glorious brands. No doubt, Innisfree is an excellent brand but trust me, there are much, much, much, better brands out there to experiment with. Because you can’t tell what’s really working on your skin until you have tried more than just one brand.

The reason why I’m taking my time to write this article today is because I’ve read many Indian Bloggers giving out misinformation to their readers. I am not here to name anyone bad, but since I have been indulging in Korean Skincare for over 2 years now and I have been studying about it for so long, trying out so many brands and communicating with Korean Beauty Bloggers as well as K-beauty Bloggers from different parts of the world am just using this column to share the knowledge I have gained in this two years.

Today’s post will only be about sheet masks because I have read so many misinformation regarding them and I thought that this was much needed. So here are some stuffs you need to keep in mind if you are someone who indulges in K-beauty or you are looking forward to.

  1. Do not wash your face after sheet masking:

So I was going through a very popular blog reading reviews as I sometimes do during my leisure hours and I came across an Innisfree Sheet Mask review and the blogger was actually complaining about how the moisture didn’t linger after washing her face. I mean why??? Why would you do that? Why would you waste that hard earned hydration and moisture by just washing your face. Sheet Masks are literally sheets drenched in serum or essence. Do you wash your face right after applying a serum? NO. Then why would you do that after sheet masking? You just earned your face an amazing hydration and moisture, so just enjoy it and only wash your face during your next skincare routine.

  1. Do not reuse your sheet mask:

This one I read like million times. Like people actually store that used sheet mask so when they sheet mask the next time and there’s a little serum left at the bottom of the packet, they soak the used sheet in that serum and give it to someone in the family to use. Again, why? If you are indulging in something this unhygienic and feeding your skin with so many bacteria then why would you even indulge in skincare in the first place. The first rule of thumb is to be hygienic. People who actually indulge in Korean Skincare maintain their hygiene like their religion. We don’t even put our washed fingers in products that comes in tubs, we use washed sterilized spatula to be extra careful. So just throw away that used sheet when you sheet mask the next time.

  1. Follow it up with a moisturizer:

Because sheet masks are drenched in serum, not moisturizer. Both have different tasks and your skin needs both. I don’t know how many people use a moisturizer or a night cream after sheet masking but I’ve heard a lot of people complaining that the sheet masks have made their skin sticky and greasy. Yes, because you’ve probably forgot to seal in the goodness with a layer of moisturizer. And no, an added layer doesn’t make your skin more greasy, it just locks it all in.

  1. Don’t leave it on for too long:

I’ll admit that while sheet masks are usually required to be left on for 20 minutes, I do leave them on for 30 minutes sometimes, especially if I feel that the mask is drenched in too much serum. But I do remove it while the sheet is still damp. If you leave it on until it’s completely dry, chances are that the sheet will soak back the moisture from your skin. (This point is actually made by Korean Skin Specialists)

  1. Choose the masks according to your need:

It’s a no brainer that different sheet masks target different types of skin issues like any other product. If an oily skin beauty applies a super hydrating mask, chances are she might break out or get an oiler skin. So choose according to your skin. Whatever your concerns are, there’s something for you.

i.e- Oily skin- Tea Tree Oil;  Acne Prone Skin- Tea Tree Oil, Green Tea;  Troubled/Irritated Skin- Aloe, Bija, Green Tea, Rice, Makgeolli;   25+ – Collagen, Pomegranate (firmness);   Dry skin- Manuka Honey;   Dull Irritated Skin- Green Tea;   Need Brightening- Tomato, Lemon;  Need Purification- Rice, Makgeolli, Seaweed.

To make the whole sheet mask scenario a little clearer, I am discussing how I personally apply sheet masks:

  • While most women around the world apply sheet masks during the morning skincare regimen to flaunt the hydration throughout the day, I personally use them during the night. Firstly because I’m not a morning person, secondly, I stay indoors most of the days and lastly, I feel like the serum is getting to do wonders to my skin while I sleep and I wake up the next morning with a plumped up and super hydrated skin.
  • Never apply them on an unclean face: I actually wanted it to make the 6th mistake point but then I thought that no one can actually sheet mask on a dirty face, can they? While sheet masking on an unclean face is out of question, you might even wanna exfoliate before sheet masking. It actually depends on the amount of time you are sheet masking in a week. For example- I usually sheet mask twice a week (sometimes as often as every day) and I exfoliate once a week, so once I sheet mask after exfoliation, and once after detoxifying with a charcoal pack. If you are someone who sheet mask once in a while, then try doing it post exfoliation. That way your skin can absorb the most of it.
  • Applying serums before the Sheet Mask: Just because you are sheet masking, doesn’t mean you should avoid your regular serum that day, ever heard about serum cocktails? So while the usual regimen says that the serum application goes after the sheet mask, I feel like applying the serum before the sheet mask is more beneficial. That way the goodness of the serum gets locked into the skin along with the goodness of the sheet mask. (This is actually something I learned from Jude Chao from Fifty Shades of Snails)

And lastly, read the instructions before applying the masks. You cannot make the most out of your sheet mask unless you are applying it properly. I hope these informations were helpful. Do drop down a comment if you have any queries and do participate in my Innisfree Giveaway to win some amazing goodies.

Till then,

Bye,

Xoxo

Skin18 Product Review

I have often talked about how the condition of my skin dramatically improved ever since I switched to Korean Skincare routine. It kept improving as I kept replacing my skincare products with the Korean ones until a point when I stopped wearing makeup to work. I’ve learnt that skincare is more important than makeup and I’ve learnt that we need to spend as much time on removing the makeup as much as we spend putting it on. I’ve learnt that it’s better to treat blemishes rather than hiding them with a concealer. Very recently, I came across an E-commerce called Skin18 site that voices the same opinion as min and offers some of the best Korean Skincare products in a very decent price. They have been very generous to send a few samples for testing purpose and I’m more than just glad to try them out.

I’ve received 1 product from Holika Holika, 1 from Foodoholic, 1 from Four Seasons and two from Luke.

Here’s everything that I have received:

Shipping: The shipping is real fast and the shipping cost that they charge are lower than any other e-commerce site. What I loved the most about the site is that you can really choose your country currency and purchase the products.

Price: I’ve purchased K-beauty products from so many sites and Skin18 offers the best price among all. Also, they offers so many freebies all the time, you just have to pay for the shipping.

I am really pleased with the overall experience, and Skin18 is officially my new Korean Skincare Product shopping destinatiom .

Foodaholic 3D Green Gram Natural Essence Mask Review

Another day, another Sheet Mask. Today it’s the Foodaholic Green Gram Natural Essence mask I received from Skin18.

9

Just the other day I was talking about my high expectations from Sheet Masks and today I’m going to review one that met all those expectations. The Green Gram Essence Mask is indeed a 3D mask, which means that it’s sewn in such a way that it really has a dimension and kindda covers the neck area as well. So to say, it is the first 3D mask I’ve used which fit my face perfectly. The technique of applying a 3D mask is to fit the chin area first and then the rest of it. The cotton is slightly thicker than any regular sheet mask which means you don’t have to worry about tearing your Sheet Mask while unfolding it. When you usually apply a Sheet Mask, you get a lot excess serum/essence which is supposed to be applied on the neck and hand or anywhere you wish. In this case there weren’t any leftover essence and I am not complaining because I really hate the feeling of dripping serum everywhere.

P_20160407_205455_BF

The mask gave my skin an immediate a cooling, soothing and refreshing feeling and that’s something I should rave about. I have been complaining about how hot it is right now at where I stay and this soothing feeling was all my skin needed. I have been using Sheet Masks every once or twice (sometimes more) a week for a year and I haven’t met any one as refreshing as this one. This is like the perfect gift you can give your skin this summer. I should admit that I threw the Sheet Mask into the refrigerator before using it but the time period was just around 4-5 minutes. I can only imagine how it would have felt on my skin had I left it in there a few more minutes.

The immediate after-effect was noticeable. My skin felt so much plumper and soft like a baby’s cheek and my face was visibly radiant and smooth when I woke up the following morning.

Pros:

  • Fits Perfectly
  • Does what it claims
  • The right amount or essence.
  • Calms and soothes the skin
  • Pocket friendly (skin18)

Cons: Nothing that I can find.

Will I purchase it again?

Yes, I’ll purchase a lot.

Four Season Aloe Soothing Waterful Oasis Mask Review

If you guys have been reading my previous posts, you’ll know that I’ve moved back to my hometown for the summer. Leaving the city after 9 years mean a lot of moving and because I plan to be back to the city by the fall, I decided not to bring my furniture with me. So the Sunday was a hell lot of day for me. I woke up early in the morning, moved the furnitures to my boy friend’s place and some to my sister’s place and then took the rest of the belongings with me. It was a 4 hrs drive and you can only imagine how I was looking when I reached home past 11 p.m. I had no energy to even dine but still I somehow managed to bathe for the 5th time that day and when I looked at myself in the mirror I really had to do something about how I looked. So I took out the Four Season Aloe Soothing Waterful Oasis Mask I received from Skin18, threw it on my skin and crashed on the bed. If I had a little more energy I would have let it rest on the refrigerator for 10 minutes but anyhow it felt so refreshing that I was more than just thankful to Skin18 at the moment for sending me this Sheet Mask.

 Directions:
– Apply the mask over cleansed and toned face.

– Leave on for 15-30 minutes, then remove gently.

– No need to rinse, and massage remaining essence onto skin.

– Discard the mask after single use.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Alcohol, Dipropylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Panthenol, Triphenyl Trimethicone, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Viginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Triethanolamine, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Propanediol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Allantoin, Ceteth-20, Ceteth-10, Cetearyl alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance.

My Experience:

I had my eyes on this particular Sheet Mask for a very long time and I’m glad that it was included in the package I received from Skin18. So as I already told you, I applied the sheet mask after a very hectic day.  I threw it on my face, laid dead for about 30 minutes and when I walked up to the mirror to take it off and that’s when I noticed how badly it fit on my face.  I was so very tired that I didn’t really notice the immediate after effect it had on my skin but when I woke up the following morning my skin was visibly soothed, as if the moving never happened the previous day. The moving surely took a toll on my skin but that was all gone.  However, since I sheet mask every once or twice a week my expectations on them are very high and sadly this sheet mask didn’t do much apart from soothing my skin. Of course an Aloe mask is meant for soothing, but this particular Sheet Mask also claimed to whiten (I prefer brighten) the skin, but I didn’t notice any such effect. I’m not complaining though, it did recover my badly tired skin and I am thankful for that.

Will I purchase it?

Yes, I would love to apply them on a regular day.

Luke Hydrogel Eye Patch For Wrinkles [Red] Review

So today I’m going to review the next product that I received from Skin18, Luke Hydrogel Eye Patch For Wrinkles [Red]. However, I don’t suffer from wrinkles but I do suffer from Panda Eyes and and puffy eyes at the same time. I have been living with it since my 12th board exam. I had this terrible habit of studying throughout the night and sleeping throughout the day. I used to do that when I was in school, I used to do that when I was in college and I used to do that when I was in University. At the beginning it used to heal after the exams were over, but after my 12th board exams, they never recovered. My eyes look either dark and shrunken or puffy and no amount of eye creams or concealer manages to hide them successfully. So when I received this eye patch I was really hopeful that it might work on my puffy eyes as well.

6

How to apply:

  • After cleansing, dry with a towel.
  • Peel off the patch from plastic liner and apply onto the desired area. It is helpful to apply eye cream or essence before.
  • Leave on for 20-30minutes and remove the patch.
  • After removing the patch, no rinsing is necessary.

My Experience:

I am certainly lucky for not having wrinkles on my face, yet. But still my face glowed a little when I received this product. I had high hopes that it might work on my puffy eyes as well. There are 5 different types of eye patch from Luke and sadly the red one was the least required for my condition. I used the eye patch as it was instructed and followed it with an eye cream but it made little difference. The area under my eyes looked a bit moisturises but my eyes were still shrunken in my sockets. I was a little disappointed, but not on the product. May be it would have worked amazing on someone who got have wrinkles, after all, it claims to reduce wrinkles not panda eyes, neither it claims to make a dramatic difference with a single usage, that would have been magic. May be the purple eye patch will work better on me; I just have to find out.

Price: Rs 93/- (Skin18)

Pros:

  • Sticks on the skin and allows you to move around without sliding.
  • Contains potential ingredients.
  • Nourishes the skin area.
  • Might work on wrinkles if you’ve got them.
  • Affordable.

Cons:

  • I can’t really say much as it works on wrinkles and I haven’t got them ( feel so stupid).

Will I purchase it?

For myself, I’ll certainly purchase the other colours.

Holika Holika Golden Monkey 3 Step Lip Kit Review

If you guys already don’t know it, I’ve moved back with my parents the day before yesterday. After spending 9 long yrs away from home, visiting only once a month, I decided I need to spend some quality time with my parents. Also I was really sick and tired of the city life and the heat stroke I suffered from last summer just made it worse for me. If you ask me if I am loving it here, then I must say that it’s a wonderful place for nature lovers like me to live in, also there’s no one to bother me here as I have the whole floor (and 4 bedrooms) to myself, unless of course my sister is visiting home. Even though I used to live alone at my apartment at the city, it’s a lot more peaceful back at my hometown. I’ve decided that this summer’s going to be all about my books, my guitars and of course my blog. However, with all advantages, there comes a little disadvantage and in this case the disadvantage has to be that I had to leave both our cameras back at the city along with the photographer (who happens to be my boyfriend as well). My phone camera is terrible and also while choosing the colours of my rooms I chose such dark colours that no matter how much lights you switch on, the lighting’s still gonna be terrible. Good news is that I made my boyfriend click pictures of as many products as we could before I moved; bad news is that I’ve got no picture of the products while using them.

The reason for such a big introduction to this post is that today I’m going to review the Holika Holika Golden Monkey 3 Step Lip Kit I received from Skin18, and it desperately required a step by step demonstration and I’m really upset about the fact that I’m unable to do that.

7

How to Use:

  1. apply step-1 Exfoliating pad to clean lips and gently massage dull skin depending on your lip sensitivity.
  2. apply step-2 Hydro-gel mask to your lips and remove it after 15minutes.  Then gently dab lip area to absorb remaining residue.
  3. apply step-3 Honey treatment to the lips, specially to dry areas.

Ingredients:
Step 1: Water, Glycerin, Cellulose, Butylene Glycol, Gold, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Chrysanthemum Morifolium Flower Extract, Gnaphalium Leontopodium Flower Extract, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Carbomer, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract,Propanediol, Propanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tromethamine, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA
Step 2: WATER, GLYCERIN, AGAR, CERATONIA SILIQUA GUM, XANTHAN GUM, PEG-60 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, CHONDRUS CRIPUS (CARRAGEENAN), ALLANTOIN, TRIETHYLHEXANOIN, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, SODIUM HYALURONATE, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, Paeonia lactiflora root Extract, Convallaria Majalis Extract, Magnolia Liliflora Flower Extract, Ipomoea Purpurea Extract, Lilium Candidum Flower Extract, HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL) EXTRACT, PORTULACA OLERACEA EXTRACT, BETA-GLUCAN, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, VACCINIUM MACROCARPON (CRANBERRY) FRUIT EXTRACT, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, METHYLPARABEN, FRAGRANCE
Step 3: Polybutene, Diisostearyl Malate, Mineral Oil, Dimethicone, Dextrin Myristate, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, CI 19140, CI 15985, Honey Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Butylene Glycol, Adansonia Digitata Seed Extract, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Sophora Japonica Flower Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Fructan

Packaging:

The packaging is super cute and hygienic. Each step was packaged separately and the monkey on the package  looks so cute that I can almost pet it.

My Experience:

My lips aren’t that dry or chapped, mainly because I apply lip balms very frequently. You can catch me applying lip balms at 30 minutes intervals. It doesn’t matter if its winter or summer, my lips just tend to get dehydrated all the time. I don’t carry the lip balms with me all the time, there’s just always one waiting for me wherever I’m going. Before I moved home, I used to have one lip balm under my pillow at my apartment bedroom, one under the pillow of my hometown bedroom, one downstairs at my parents’ living room, one in my office bag (before I quit my job), one in the sling bag I carry most of the times, one at my sister’s place (it’s not like she doesn’t use lip balms, my lips are just too sensitive to risk applying balms that aren’t tried and tested on myself) and one at my boyfriend’s place. So you guys can literally understand the condition of my lips. Also, a lot of you might know that I’ve got super sensitive skin and the most sensitive part has to be my lips. If anything goes wrong, my lips are the first ones to react, sometimes within seconds, they starts to swell badly and stays swollen for days even after the rest of my face comes back to normal. So I have got to be very particular about what I’m putting on my skin and my lips.

For some reason, I was really confident on applying the Holika Holika Glamour Monkey Lip Kit. I’ve read excellent reviews of products from this brand and was really eager to try it out. If you have read my previous post, you’ll know that I applied this lip kit while waiting for my Nose Cleansing Strip to dry out.

The first step is to clean and exfoliate the lips with a cute lip shaped exfoliating pad. The pad was soaked in some kind of cleansing milk and was too gentle on my lips. One side of the pad was super smooth while the other side had a little bit of texture on it. I could really feel the dead skins being eliminated.

I washed my lips with a little bit of water and moved to the next step. The 2nd step of the kit consisted of a cute lip-shaped hydrogel patch. It was funny putting it on the lips and waiting for 15 minutes. I badly missed my camera at this point.

Step 3 was to put on a honey based serum on the lips. It looked like a gloss and didn’t feel sticky at all. Also there’s plenty of the serum left for another 2 or 3 usages.

Because I don’t read Korean, I couldn’t read anything else except for the direction, the caution and its claim of treating chapped and dry lips, making them more voluptuous. Because of its claim I wondered if I would wake up the next morning with lips like Kylie Jenner. Sure enough no such things happened, but my lips did look a little plumper than it usually does, also it’s been 24 hours since I’ve applied the lip kit and the number of time I needed to apply a lip balm is once. I’m really loving the feeling of wandering around without having to dab my lips with a lip balm every once in a while and my lips are feeling as soft as my nephew’s who turned one last week.

Overall, I really enjoyed using this product and given to the fact that I love exfoliating my lips once in a while, this product certainly bagged a place in my skincare routine.

Pros:

  • Cutest packaging I’ve ever seen.
  • Does what it claims
  • Hygienic
  • Application is super fun. Even if you don’t suffer from chapped lips, you can give this product a try just for fun’s sake.

Cons:

  • Nothing that I can find.

Will I purchase it again?

I sure will.

Luke Lemon Tea Tree Nose Cleansing Strip Review

Hey guys, today I’m going to rave about the Luke Lemon Tea Tree Nose Cleansing Strips that I received from Skin18 along with two sheet masks, an eye patch and a glamour lip kit.

I haven’t had much problem with black heads until about 2 years ago. For some reason, they started giving me a bad time all of a sudden and no amount of exfoliation or chemical peeling or kitchen remedies are helping me get rid of them. So when I discovered the Nose Cleansing Strip with the package, you can only imagine my excitement.

5

My Experience:

As per the instruction, I washed my face and thoroughly wet the nose area and applied the strip. The strip feels somewhat like a bandage. I was supposed to wait for 10-20 minutes, but I was so impatient that I started using the glamour lip kit (I’ll talk about it some other day) while waiting for the strip to dry out. After a while the strip began to feel stiff and I knew that it’s ready to move. I slowly peeled the strip off starting with the edges. For some reason I expected the strip to turn dark with all the black heads removed but to my major disappointment it was all white. I started wondering if I did something wrong and switched on all the lights and started checking out my nose area cursing myself for not owning a magnifying mirror. That’s when I discovered my nose area completely clean; there wasn’t a sign of a single black head. I moved to a better lit room and started checking out the strip again and there they were, 1,2,3 and then I found out many tiny black heads stuck on the strip. They were so terribly tiny that I couldn’t figure out if my eye sight was working fine.

I am very very pleased with how the Pore Strips work. I really need more of them now. 😀

Pros:

  • Does what it claims.
  • Didn’t irritate my super sensitive skin.
  • Easy to use.

Cons:

  • Nothing that I can find.

Will I purchase it?

It just became a part of my skincare routine.

Tonymoly I’m Real Lemon Mask Sheet for Brightening Review

As the Diwali spirit is slowly burning out, I am back with my Korean Skincare reviews. I am currently taking the #novembermaskchallenge which is technically posting about different types of masks throughout the month of November. I will be posting them on my Instagram and will occasionally post full reviews on the blog in case the ones that I am applying haven’t already been reviewed. So day 1 was tropical vives and the closest thing I could get my hands on is Lemon. And now I am going to review the Tonymoly It’s Real Lemon Brightening Mask Sheet.

p_20161016_151544

I’ve been travelling the last week and I left my Vichy Face wash at my friend’s place where I crashed the first night. The rest of the week I had to do with my sister’s face wash which doesn’t really behave well on my skin. So when I applied the mask, my skin was a bit dull and I really wanted a new skin on my face. Not possible, so I had to repair what I was left with. Typically I love putting lemon juice and tomato juice on my face because of their brightening and de-tanning properties. Back in those ‘live by myself’ days I used to use a besan pack on my face mixed with tomato and lemon juice at least twice a week. My skin tans like crazy and the combo works like magic. However, I haven’t done it in a while and my skin has been looking really dark since the past few months. The Lemon Mask obviously seemed to be the best choice. Needless to say, I had a high expectation from this particular mask. You see, the worst thing you can put on your skin is a whitening product, the average thing you can put on your skin is a lightening product, and the BEST thing you can put on your skin is a brightening products. Of course the Koreans know about skin better than us, and thus I expect almost every Kbeauty products to deliver even the slightest of brightening effect. Actually that’s the only thing I expect besides hydration. So when a mask that contains lemon and screams brightening, your expectations will reach sky high.

p_20161016_151550

Let’s just skip the application part just this one, there’s nothing new, I apply all my sheet masks in the same manner, and have been writing the same procedure repeatedly. Let’s just talk about what it did to my skin. Obviously my skin wasn’t at its best when I tried it out; it was dark, and dull and a little bit irritated. So I left the mask on for about half an hour and removed it to reveal a clear and bright skin. Now about the brightening claim, it did deliver to its claim, but nothing extra-ordinary. Let’s say, on a scale from 1-10, my skin was a 5, and the mask made it 6, while I was expecting at least 7-8. Then again, my expectations were too high and my skin was a bit dull and dark so it had a lot of work to do. I am assuming, it would have worked much better if my skin wasn’t acting up lately, but sadly it was.

20161023_222044

Now, about the pictures. While coming back home, I encountered a 4 yr old in the train who’ll put even my nieces to shame. She posed for a few pictures and took my phone to check them out and deleted my whole gallery because her pictures weren’t good enough. I would have found it too adorable if my gallery wasn’t too precious. So all I am left with to share is the ones that I took while doing the haul post and the sheet mask selfie which I just remembered that I had transferred to my laptop.

TONY MOLY “I’M REAL” SHEET MASK REVIEW- Rice

Just a couple of days ago I posted my Kbeauty haul and now I’ve officially started reviewing them one by one. Because of all the experiments and tortures that my skin goes through, it’s safe to say that my skin is not at its best right now. I’ve got a few tiny bumps on my face which is bothering me a lot as I rarely get pimples. So I decided to start by purifying my skin with my favourite variety of sheet mask, that’s the rice one.

p_20161016_151525

Product Claims

Nourish your skin with the I’m Real Rice Mask Sheet! This 3-layer pulp sheet is filled with a latex-based essence that is infused with natural oils to provide maximum elasticity and brightening effects for your skin. No parabens, talc, benzophenone, or triethanolamine included.

p_20161016_151534

I’ve earlier used a rice mask from Etude House while I was suffering from a bad breakout and it worked wonderfully. This time it’s a Tonymoly one, and while my skin is not as horrible as the time it was while I tried the Etude House one, it still was pretty bad and again I am amazed to see how rice works on irritated skin. Japanese Geishas’ have been using rice water to clean their skin from the ancient days, and if you have ever wondered what their secret to get such porcelain skins is, there I just answered part of your curiosity.

So back to the Sheet Mask review. The sheet was soaked in a very decent amount of milky white serum, with some leftover in the packet.  I doubled cleansed my face, prepped with a toner and applied the sheet mask leaving it for 25 minutes. The mask fit my face wonderfully. Maybe, it’s the best fitting sheet mask I’ve ever used. My bad I didn’t take a ghost selfie, but there are still 10 masks with the same fitting sitting on my shelf, so you might see one in the next post.

The initial effect after taking it off was just what you’ll expect from a very good sheet mask, intensely moisturized and hydrated skin. The following morning I woke up with a CLEAR and BRIGHT skin, exactly what I expect a sheet mask to do. I am very happy with the result and am eager to find out how the rests work out; my money is on the red wine one.

Pros:

  • Reasonable price
  • Amazing fitting
  • Does everything it claims
  • No parabens

Cons:

Nothing

Where To Buy Korean Skincare Products in India + Some Tips & Tricks

As promised, I’m here today with some tips and tricks and brand suggestions to keep in mind while shopping for Korean Skin Care products.

collage

First things first-

Where to get them? (Based on personal experience)

Soko Glam:

I became obsessed with Korean Skincare almost two years ago.  Soko Glam happens to be the website where I got my first Kbeauty products from- Tonymoly Oil Cleanser (still Obsessed), Skinfood Green Tea Bubble Cleanser (Best thing that ever happened to my skin) and Goodal Phytowash (Exfoliation dream). Soko Glam is a very trustworthy website. Charlotte Cho visits Seoul and picks up the products herself and tries it on her own skin before adding it to the website. The back draws however is that they don’t have any minimum free shipping rate to India. For those residing in the U.S or Canada, this site’s the best for you guys. (Thank Me Later)

Amazon:

My second purchase was a pack of 10 sheetmasks from Innisfree that I ordered from Amazon and I have no idea if the merchant was authentic. The masks did work brilliantly on my skin though. I gave away two masks to my colleagues and they loved them so much that they asked me to order a few for them while ordering my next lot.

StrawberryNet:

This time it was a pack of 10 Etude House Masks. They worked great as well. But then I read a lot of consumer complaints that the StrawberryNet products are not authentic and have reacted badly on a lot of peoples’ skin. So I didn’t repeat order from this site even though I got lucky with my order.

Innisfree Delhi Store:

I legit left my job on December 2015 and flew to New Delhi to visit the Innisfree Store in January and I did a huge haul. Delhi beauties, I envy you (because of the recent Face Shop launch as well)!

Wishtrend:

It’s a legit site as well. But they offer free shipping above 66$ or something which will mess up with the custom.  They have free shipping on some particular products and I still keep checking if there’s any new product in the Free Shipping list that I wanna try. No personal experience yet.

Skin18:

I am pretty sure I don’t need to talk much about this website. They are well known for their blogger friendly programmed. They have sent me two packages for review purpose and I loved them all. However, Free Shipping is above 60$.

Cosmetic Love:

Here comes the most awaited part. The magic website with free shipping, Tada! No shipping charge, no custom duty. Just try to keep your orders low to avoid custom. You’ll get a tracking ID by paying an $2.5. Their website says that it will take about 2 weeks for the order to show up, but my first two orders came 1 month late. But then again, my first order came along with a package from Greece shipped a couple of months ago, so I guess both went for a little custom tour. My third order didn’t show up, so when I mailed them about it, they were kind enough to reorder my products again with a free tracking ID.  And after I received it, I placed my fourth order. I am sticking with this website.

Referral Link:

http://r.sloyalty.com/r/uWuXxR0DE7uf – 15% Off with my Referral link.

Daisy Skin Fix

It’s an Indian E-commerce site where you can get a multiple Korean Skincare brands, and guess what? They have free shipping on all order.

Nykaa:

By the Grace of God, Innisfree and The Face Shop has recently launched in Nykaa…

NewFaceShop:

They have a wide collection of Korean Skincare products and ships for free if the order is above $35

A little tips and tricks-

  • Already gave one, while ordering from Cosmetic Love, try keeping your order low.
  • They offer an abundant amount of samples and trial sized pack. So you’d like to order some samples first, they comes very chip, plus they extremely travel friendly. If you are ordering a lot of different types of samples, try one product at a time so you can figure out the culprit if something goes wrong (I haven’t had any bad experience with any Korean Products so far and my skin is super-sensitive, so chances are very low).
  • You’ll get free samples if there are any full sized products in the order and yes sheet masks count. The higher the full sized product prize amount, the more samples you’ll receive.

My Favourite Brands: (Only The Bests)

  • Tonymoly
  • Mishha
  • Etude House
  • Innisfree
  • Goodal
  • Foodaholic

Favourite Products Used So Far : (Only the bests)

Products I Would Suggest Not To Try-

So that’s all. Hope you enjoyed this post and please do not hesitate if you have any more queries, I would love to post a sequel if needed.

And once again, I am not being benefited from this post. The whole post is best on personal experience and my love for Korean cosmetics.

Korean Skincare Haul

Korean Skincare products are no doubt the best in the world. They are cheap, they use amazing, potential and most importantly, natural ingredients, and they will very rarely break you out. However, one of the most underrated aspects of K-beauty is that they are very generous with samples. I’ve read in a lot of articles that if you walk down the streets of Seoul, there will be people standing in front of the stores handing samples, and also your shopping bag will be filled with samples if you purchase something from any store. Oh! How I wish to move to Seoul! And what better way can there be by trying out samples before purchasing the full product? That’s right I figured out an amazing way to get my hands on K-beauty samples by sitting at home, by paying for them of course. So there’s going to be a chain of posts in this particular topic. For a starter, I would like to mention that I’m not being paid to write these articles. They are completely out of my love for K-beauty products, and for you guys who have admired my K-beauty craze and have got in touch with me telling me that my posts influenced you to try out K-beauty, and most importantly take better care of your skin.

So the first post here is going to be a sheet mask and sample haul I recently did. It’s my third purchase from a website that I personally adore and the next post will be regarding where to buy Kbeauty products from(and that mystery site), brands that are my personal favourites, coupon codes and a lot of tips and tricks to follow while shopping K beauty products. The rests are going to be reviews of the haul that I did.

So here’s everything I purchased.

Luke Hyaluron Essence Mask Review

Winter is almost here and my skin has already started tugging a little. I guess my love for sheet masks is no secret, as well as the fact that I use them at least twice a week and sometimes more. Winter skincare requires a little more effort and that’s why I sometimes Sheet Mask as often as every day or alternative days during winter. So the temperature suddenly dropped and my skin dried out all of a sudden, coincidentally at the time I ran out of all my serums. I felt my regular moisturizers that I had been using isn’t enough and I knew that to get my skin winter ready in just an hour it required not just any sheet mask but a sheet mask that claims intensive moisturizing. That’s when this sheet mask came out.

p_20160922_160236

Luke is not a new brand to me as I have used so many of their strips and sheet masks and loved them all. This particular sheet mask however, had a different instruction than any other sheet masks. Usually you are supposed to double cleanse, tone and then apply the sheet mask following up with your regular serum, moisturizer and eye treatment. This sheet mask however, instructed to apply the regular products first and use it as a last step. I followed as instructed, removing the mask after about 40 minutes when it was totally dried up.

20161014_201929

What amazed me the most about this mask is that it fit perfectly, and there are just a few brands out there that fit my face perfectly. I didn’t need to tear the eye holes, it didn’t wrinkle up near the nose area, and most importantly the mask didn’t go above my hairline (I hate when they do). So the fitting was perfect. And then I removed it after 40 minutes and the essence had already been absorbed into my skin, I didn’t even have to pat it. Sometimes my skin feels a little sticky after sheet masking until I apply a night cream, but in this case it didn’t, and I would have hated it if it did as I had already applied my night cream prior to it.

My problem was solved. It’s been three days, I haven’t yet sheet masked again, and my skin isn’t feeling dry yet. Guess my skin is already winter ready. Apart from intense moisturizing, I haven’t noticed any other effects (namely brightening). But since it contains Hyaluron which claims to contain anti-aging benefits, I would suggest anyone post 25 to use this sheet mask once in a while as I prefer taking precautions before the damage is done.

Ingredient Analysis:

p_20160922_160243

My CosDNA analysis came up really clean. With only Butylene Glycol raised a flag, 1 out of 5 as an acne trigger, but I personally don’t have any problems with Butylene Glycol.

Pros:

  • Does what it claims
  • Fit perfectly
  • Didn’t irritate my super sensitive skin

Cons:

Nothing

Cracare Anti-Aging Collagen Lifting 3 Steps Mask Review

I turned 27 last month and I am aware of the fact that it’s high time I should invest in some anti-aging products. I would rather prevent aging signs than to spend fortune to get rid of them when it’s too late. If you know me, you might have already guessed that I am probably looking for a good Korean Anti-aging product. Recently I received a generous box from Skin18 and there happened to be an anti-aging product in it, a 3 step sheet mask to be precise.

p_20160922_160304

Luckily, there’s no aging signs on my face yet (touch wood) except for my stubborn eye bags that has permanently been there since my 12th board exam. When it comes to anti-aging treatments, you can’t just expect overnight miracles, thus I had no idea what to expect from this particular sheet mask.

p_20160922_160313

The instructions were clearly written on the back of the sheet mask and accordingly I applied the step one ampule on my eyes and lips area, followed it up with step 2: sheet mask, keeping it on for 30 minutes and finishing up with the step 3 night cream. Step 1 and step 3 lasted for another few usages and I kindda liked how they smell (hard to explain). The sheet mask almost fit perfectly except for some wrinkles around the nose area which didn’t bother me much.

A sheet mask’s primary job is to provide immense hydration, which it did too well, along with a noticeable firmness. But as I said, you can’t just expect anti-aging skincare overnight, I guess you would have to use this sheet mask once a week if you already have visible aging signs and you want it to work.

Overall, the sheet mask is brilliant. I love multi step skincare products and this is the kind of sheet mask I would be using once a week once I hit 30. I personally would have liked it better if there was a minimum age mentioned as most of the anti-aging products are 30+ or in some cases 45+.

Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam Review

After reading the many ravings about the Egg White Cleansing Foam from Skinfood I decided to give it a go. After all, Skinfood happens to be one of my favourite Korean Skincare Brands and I really liked their Tea Tree Bubble Cleansing Foam. When I received my order, I was jumping in joy, thinking about how all my other cleansers will be cornered for some time now.

Description:

A gentle foaming cleanser suitable for sensitive skin. This new product from Skinfood contains pore-purifying, amino acid-rich egg whites with deep cleansing properties. The Egg White Foam Cleanse is mild enough for daily use and will not strip away any beneficial natural oils.

150ml

How To Use:

Start with a wet face and neck. Massage a small dab of product all over while avoiding the eyes. Rinse off warm water. Follow with toner and usual skincare regimen.

C_1

My Experience:

I’ve never tested my Korean Skincare products on my sister except for the TonyMoly Cleansing Oil as she has an acne prone skin and whatever she applies on her face that is not prescribed by her dermatologist, gives her a bad breakout. However, after her amazing experience with the cleansing oil, she decided to give this cleansing foam a try. So we applied the foam together during our night time regimen. She has an excessively oily skin while I have a combination, sensitive skin. The first thing both of us noticed even before we had washed off the foam is that our skin was feeling too dry. I felt like my skin will be stretching out so I ran for my toners and my serums and my cream as if I’m running for my life. Our skin did feel clean though. However, with every new cleanser I try testing it once without using an oil cleanser to check if it removes minimal makeup, and this cleanser failed the test. I wasn’t happy with this one, I still am not, but I feel like I need to use any skincare product for at least 28 before reviewing it because that’s how long our skin cells take to turn over.

My sister however, didn’t know what to expect and is just glad that it didn’t break her out. She has an oily skin as I mentioned earlier, so it didn’t bother her much that the cleanser dried up her skin and she’s pretty much pleased.

But then I read reviews from other K-beauty bloggers to find out if it’s just me who thinks that this foam is just a little too drying. I was left in shock when I read their reviews. Turns out that the pH level of this foam is as high as 10.5 and it can completely strip your acid mantle. I was like how on earth can a cleanser’s pH level be that high and still be so popular?! Who uses cleansers with pH level that high?

Also the ingredient list consists of a lot of ingredients that are known to be irritants and the Albumen Extract which is supposed to be the star ingredient of the product come 10th. Yes it didn’t irritate my super-sensitive skin, but I am not repurchasing it again. No amount of Albumen Extract can make me repurchase it again. And dry skin beauties, just stay away from this cleanser.

Innisfree Capsule Recipe Pack Jeju Volcano Review

Innisfree has these tiny capsule recipe packs that are basically smaller versions of some of their full-sized products. For example, the Capsule Recipe Pack Jeju Volcano is the mini version of the Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask. I’ve got 3 Capsule Recipe Pack, the Jeju Volcano and two Sleep Packs. I’ll start with the Volcano Recipe Pack.

20160121_130255

Price: Rs. 150 for 10 ml.

Shelf Life: 30 months

Product Claims:

The clay mask pack with Jeju volcanic ashes to absorb sebum to purify pores.

Directions:

  1. Smooth over your face that can feel dry after cleansing. Rinse off with warm water after 10-15 minutes. Massaging will relieve your facial muscles for more comfortable looks. Choose the right one for your skin condition.
  2. Insert the cap of capsule into the container and pull for air tightness to use for 2-3 applications.

20160121_130330

My Experiece:

If I had any idea that these recipe packs are just the mini versions, I would have bought all of them as it is a great way of finding out what suits best for you. If only other brands had stolen this brilliant idea from Innisfree we wouldn’t need to spend fortune on new products and then get disappointed later.

Coming back to my experience… Even though I don’t have large pores, I have read a lot about volcanic masks and was really eager to try them out. The consistency and texture is similar to any other clay mask and spreads evenly on the skin which can be a pleasant experience for OCD patients 😀

I used the mask after double cleansing and exfoliating my face, and kept it on for like 20 minutes and then washed it off. Like any other clay mask, it took a little effort to wash off the mask, and my skin was left squeaky clean. Okay I’ve already double cleansed and exfoliated my face, my skin was already squeaky clean, I mean my toner soaked cotton pad NEVER finds any residue, but I could feel that even my epidermis layer felt clean as well. I was really happy with the result and trust me it takes a lot to make me happy when it comes to masks as I am huge on masks.

It says that the mask can be used twice or thrice, but in my case, it lasted for more than 4 usages. There’s just one problem, it’s really hard to store it after the first usage and the consistency starts getting thicker after opening the lid. It is suggested to use the mask twice a week so it can take up to 2-3 weeks to finish the recipe pack, and if you keep it open for a month, it’s going to get stiff. There’s one more problem that I would like to point out, since I travel a lot, I always store tiny products for unplanned tours and all, so yeah this is mask is really travel unfriendly if you can’t use the whole mask at once. Some people may find the tiny container unhygienic but I think it’s pretty cute.

If you guys have used it, or planning to use it, I would love to know how it works on beauties with large pores (don’t take offence, I’m just curious).

Pros:

  • Controls sebum
  • Pocket friendly
  • Cute packaging

Cons:

  • Storing it can be an issue.

Will I purchase it again?

I’ll purchase the full-sized jar next time.

All About Korean Skincare

I am going to talk about skincare today, something that has been overlooked by Indian women for years (I’m not talking about the ancient days here, they did just fine). How many of us have grown up watching our mothers apply routine anti-aging products before completely ruining their skin or have themselves started using them as soon as they turned 25? How many of us prefer using a spot corrector instead of a concealer? Not many I guess.

There are very few Indian women who spends as much time on removing the makeup as much as they spent putting it on. We’ll hide all the flaws using make-up but rarely will try to get rid of them once and for all. It’s like completely depriving our skin of the essential care and when the skin is ruined, we start spending fortune on treatment products.
May be it’s time we learn something from the women with the porcelain skin. I’ve read somewhere that Korean mother’s teach their daughters (and even their son) how to take care of their skin before even they reach adolescence. That explains why you won’t come across a single Korean woman who doesn’t have a flawless skin.  Of course the food they consume also has a part in it. They consume a lot of fermented food (like the delicious Kimchi which is basically fermented cabbage) that are somewhat responsible for their flawless skin. Even the Japanese people eat a lot of fermented food (like Nato, fermented soybean) and don’t they have flawless skin too? Even though we can’t (or may we can) eat Kimchi with lunch and Nato for breakfast every single day, we can always indulge in an extensive skincare routine whether or not influenced by the Korean 10 step skincare routine.
When I first came to know about the Korean Skincare routine about a year ago, I was in my mid-20s and my skin was in ruins. I barely used a moisturizer, not even after exfoliating, deprived my skin of sunscreen and used a harsh face wash which could ‘do it all’. My skincare products included a harsh face wash and a scrubber with large granules. When a colleague noticed the damage, I purchased night creams, serums, eye cream and other stuffs and started taking care of my skin. The damage was too severe that the products made no difference even after months of applying. That’s when I came across the Korean Skincare routine. I didn’t have much of the products, so I followed 5 steps with the products I already have and sure enough I noticed a huge difference the following morning. My skin was even and somewhat glowing. I started doing more research, purchased more products and modified the routine according to my needs. Within weeks my skin was so glowing that my colleagues and friends started asking me what did I do? That’s when I wrote my first article on my first blog about the skincare I was indulging in. The article got a huge response and after my colleagues and friends became Korean skincare converts too, I launched this blog to document my K-beauty Journey.
Korean skincare is all about layering. And if you want to follow the steps using Indian or International products, make sure that the products you are using doesn’t contain parabens or SLS. The more all-natural products you use, the better.
The first step itself contains 2 steps.
Oil Cleansing– It’s like using oil against oil. The oil helps break down the built up sebum, dirt and makeup and with a little effort it all comes off. They say your skin needs to be treated like a flower and not like the dirty utensils in your kitchen. So the key is to be gentle. I am currently using Tonymoly oil cleanser.

Bubble Cleanser– It’s the second step of cleansing; making sure that your skin is squeaky clean by now. Two of my favourite bubble cleansers are SkinFood Green Tea Bubble Cleanser and Innisfree Green Barley Bubble Cleanser.

• Exfoliate: The gentler version of scrubbing. Making sure that the granules are tiny, exfoliate twice a month. This step is the key to get a healthy skin. If you don’t exfoliate your skin, the built up dead cells will prevent your skin from absorbing all the goodness of the products you are applying. Also keep in mind that over exfoliating will only result in melanin production and therefore darker skin. I am currently using Goodal Phytowash Bubble Peeling.

Face Packs: The K-skincare can vary from 10-17 steps according to your needs. So you can always include steps which you think is good for your skin. In my case I randomly use many face packs but my favourite ones are any kind of Charcoal masks when my skin needs detoxification and Aloe masks when my skin is irritated.

Toner: You can use your regular toner, just making sure it doesn’t contain alcohol because a toner containing alcohol will only make your skin drier.

My favourite one is Kama Ayurveda Distilled Rose Water.
Sheet Mask: This is my favourite step. Just put on a Sheet Mask and chill for 20 minutes and wake up the next day with a super hydrated plumped up skin. I use sheet masks once or twice a week. I have so many favourites that I can’t really name just one or two. There’s the rice sheet mask from Etude House, the green tea, aloe vera and manuka honey from Innisfree and there’s a lot more to choose from.

Essence: The lighter version of serum yet a powerful one. Essences are very rarely available unless you live in Korea. I have tried the Missha Time Revolution Essence sample and the single application left me spellbound. The following morning was the best my skin has ever looked. However, that was the only time I used an essence but will surely get my hands on the full size soon.
Serum: This one’s a no brainer. The Korean women however apply multiple serums, making a serum cocktail, here’s one for anti-aging, here’s one for brightening, and here goes the spot correction. Of the many serums I have used, my favourites are the Neutrogena Fine Fairness serum and Innisfree Canola Honey Serum.

Moisturiser/Night cream/Sleep Mask: During the day time I use a moisturiser and during the P.M skincare I use a night cream, replacing with a sleep pack twice a week. My favourite moisturiser is Natural Bath & Body Whipped Cream, Favourite Night Creams are Kama Ayurveda Rejuvinating night cream and Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Night Cream and my Favourite Sleep packs are the tiny capsule recipe packs from Innisfree.

Sunscreen/Cushion Compact:  Cushion compacts are a huge fuss right now, thanks to K-beauty. Only if you use them once you’ll know what the fuss is all about. They flawlessly cover any imperfections giving your skin the dewy look that’s much raved about. I am currently using the Water Glow Cushion Compact from Innisfree and I occasionally replace it by a sunscreen from Chambor Geneva or the Eau Thermale Avene suncreen.

Eye Cream: Another no brainer. I am using Neutrogena Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream.
Mists: In order to maintain the dewiness achieved by the extensive skincare routine, women in Korea use mist periodically whether they are in office or in public transport. And no, it doesn’t ruin your make-up. The one that I have been using is from Innisfree and it’s been working pretty good on my skin.

So that’s about it. It might look extensive and time consuming, but once you start experimenting with this routine you will soon find yourself hooked and will start to modify according to your needs. Often times I use only 5 steps during the night and sometimes it gets down to 4 steps during the morning as I rarely use the oil cleanser during my A.M skincare. Even if you are too lazy to try it out, you can take it from the laziest person on the country that it’s really worth a shot.
