Aplava Haul- Shopping Experience

Being the shopaholic that I am, I am always for the lookout for new shopping destinations, preferably the ones that offers hi-end brands. I’ve already mentioned thousand times that I’m spending the summer over at my hometown, which is basically a small town with no real shopping mall. Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit, they do have some malls, but none that can satisfy a city girl’s craves who happens to be a big time shopaholic, besides I’ve got trust issues when it comes to beauty products.
So I came across site called Aplava about a week back and it amazed me to find out that they have got such cool brands, most of which are rarely available in India. The discovery of the site left me ‘Eureka’ as I surfed the whole website with a shameless greed. The site is neatly designed and they have this Beauty Profile service where you can personalize your profile, somewhat like Ipsy, only Ipsy doesn’t ship to India…
I registered myself and went through a hassle-free shopping experience. For the starter, I chose only two products, and paid through my PayTM Wallet. They’ve got free express shipping over 999 bucks and you can also choose to pay COD if you pay 50 bucks extra. Given to the fact that I hate giving my bank details to any site, I was overwhelmed to find out that I can pay through my wallet. How cool is that?
The delivery was super-fast. It took less than a week before it was at my doorstep and considering the fact that I am currently residing at a small town, it was quite impressive. The products were packed neatly in bubble wraps and were in a very good condition.
These are what I’ve got from the site:

• Easy navigation
• Good selection of brands
• Quick Delivery
• Payment modes- Credit Card, Debit Card, COD, Wallet
• Free express delivery over Rs 999
• Authentic products
• Only a few drugstore brands are available, couldn’t find few products that I was looking for…
Will I purchase from this site again?

Make Up Revolution ICONIC Blush Bronze & Brighten Palette Golden Hot Review

Recently I’ve fallen in love with Makeup Revolution products which you guys would obviously be aware of if you have read my recent posts. Taken to the fact that I’m currently broke, and that obviously doesn’t affect my shopaholic tendencies, I currently have to do with dupes, or rather I might say very high quality dupes at unbelievable price tags.

Makeup Revolution creates dupes of some of our much loved brands, i.e.- Urban Decay, Too Faced which are sometimes out of our reach when it comes to price tags and availability issues. They are affordable, they are almost as good as our popular hi-end brands, and they look luxurious. I’ve used their contour kit and their eye shadow palette and trust me, if you are not aware of the brand, you might mistake them for a very luxurious brand which is in no way pocket friendly.

The Iconic Blush Bronze and Brighten Palette comes in a sleek box and contains a bronzer, a highlighter and a blush, how cool is that? Imagine you are packing for a trip last minute and instead of looking for three separate products you just grab this kit… I wish all my beauty products were this travel friendly.  The palette comes in four shades- Rave, Flush, Smoulder and Golden Hot. While the other three palettes were in no way suitable for Indian skin tone, I waited patiently until Nykaa restocked Golden Hot. To my major disappointment, Golden Hot too was a bit light for my wheatish skin tone.

The Bronzer is just one or two shades darker than my skin tone. However, it’s too brilliant for nailing the no make up look as my face gets a shape without the bronzer being visible and I don’t even have to blend. I applied the bronzer on my sister’s face who always requires the lightest shade while purchasing compacts and foundations and the shade was too dark on her skin. The highlighter on the other hand has to be the best part of the kit. Some people might dislike the fact that the highlighter is too shimmery, but I love how it gives a subtle sheen on the cheeks. If you are looking for a regular highlighter, this one might not be an ideal one. Isn’t it funny how the bronzer is good for regular wear but not for festive wear and when it comes to the highlighter it’s vice versa? Coming to the blush, it’s not bad, but it’s not the best either. All I can say about the blush is that if I were purchasing a solo blush, I wouldn’t choose this shade.

Coming to the pigmentation and texture, it’s hard to believe that you are getting all these in just Rs 850/- The texture isn’t chalky and the staying power amazed me. Because the shade preference depends from person to person, I would suggest this Palette to anybody who’s looking for a good contour kit, may be you prefer peachy blushes over coral ones unlike me?

  • Pocket Friendly
  • Travel friendly
  • Sleek and attractive packaging
  • Good pigmentation and texture

  • A little light Indian skin tone.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Palette in What You Waiting For is What You Have Been Waiting For! – First Impression

Hey guys, today am going to write about my first impression of the salvation eye shadow palette from Makeup Revolution. I’ve purchased a few stuffs from Makeup Revolution recently but haven’t really got the time to test them more than once. Also since I left both my cameras at my apartment at Kolkata I had to do with some crappy pictures, so I decided to do a first impression post instead of a review with some swatches.

First Impression:

The salvation palettes come in 4-5 varieties and even though I am a smokey-eyes girl and have literally never tried any other looks when it comes to my eyes and sure enough I fell in love with their palette ‘Hard Day’ while browsing but when I remembered that my sister asked for a neutral palette to wear on her engagement I fell in a deep confusion. I certainly was buying this palette for myself, but then I remembered that my sister asked something for the engagement (and I took the responsibility for her makeup), then I remembers that she’s a nerd and is going wear it only ONCE and the confusion ended when I realized that I’ve got all the shades from ‘Hard Day’ as solo shadows. I mean seriously I’ve got so many solo shades that it’s sometimes annoying to get them all in one place. So my confusion ended and I purchased the ‘What You Waiting For’ Pallete.

The packaging is really genius and attractive and when you open the carton the sleek box comes out. The shades are some pretty neutral ones which I’m afraid will get lost in my wheatish skin tone. I’ve applied the shadows once but the only shades that were visible on my eyes were the two dark ones. It could have been my fault, I’ve always experimented with different types of smokey eyes look and have never tried something different, so maybe it’s supposed to look that way, maybe it’s meant for the ‘no-makeup look’ or maybe I still need to learn how to wear neutral shades but whatever it is, I’ll overcome it and will do a full review (with better pictures) and if possible I’ll convince my sister and post a picture of her wearing the shades so that you guys can get a glimpse on how the shades work on fair skin.

The pigmentation is quite good. However, if you look at the swatches, you’ll notice that the light colours aren’t even visible on my skin. The dark colours have got a really good pigmentation, and a single coat is enough. The brush however is a little bit tacky. I mean who uses sponge applicator! I tried using it once but no colour actually came out so I went back to my usual eye-shadow brush.

So that’s all about my first impression. You guys can expect some pretty amazing pictures and a full review in a couple of weeks. Till then xoxo…

L’Oreal Color Riche Pure Reds Star Lipstick, Pure Amaranthe

If you have read my red lipstick collection post, you’ll probably know that I am a sucker for red lipsticks. What I have never mentioned in my blog is that I have a weakness for Hot Pink lipsticks as well. So when I was browsing through the shades from the L’Oreal Color Riche Pure Reds Star Collection, my eyes got struck on the colour Pure Amaranthe. What’s special about the Pure Red Star Collection is that each shade is picked and signed by their Brand Ambassadors. Quite co-incidentally the one I picked was signed by my favourite actress Gong Li. After watching Memoirs of Geisha, I particularly fell in love with her hair and that turned into obsession after watching several of her other movies, and that’s how I started taking care of my hair. Back to the lipstick…

Product Description:

L’Oreal Paris starts the new year painting 2015 RED! Presenting the “Color Riche Collection Star” range. A rouge for every woman. Discover a shade of red that is as unique as you are! The range includes 7 exquisite matte shades that are chosen by 7 ionic L’Oréal Paris ambassadors.

Rs 995/-

My Experience:

The colour is a pretty pink with a red tone. It will suit any skin tone, though it will look amazingly better on fair skin tone. My sister, who always needs to pick the whitest tone while picking foundations and compacts is planning to wear this lipstick on her engagement. And when you see my crazy lipstick collection, you’ll know that this shade has to be really special to be chosen for this special occasion.

The lasting power disappointed me a little. I’ve got lipsticks with lower price range that lasts about 12 hrs straight even after having meals. There’s this one lipstick which the other bridesmaids and I wore at a friend’s wedding and without touch-ups it lasted us the whole day without a single mess or colour transfers and you’ll bet there were a lot of eating involved. So yes, I was disappointed with the fact that it didn’t last 3 hours on my lips. I wore it while going to choose my sister’s engagement ring and by the time we reached the third jeweller, it was all gone with small pink patches on my lips. Also I would like to mention that the weather was too humid that day and there were lots of sweating too. By the time we reached the restaurant, there was no sign of the lipstick so I cannot tell if it can survive meals. My sister however wore it a few times and it lasted on her lips more than it did on mine, like 4-5 hours, but that’s still not good enough for me as with this price I’ll expect a better staying power.

The pigmentation is good and the texture is smooth, creamy and luxurious and the colour does not transfer much.

  • Amazing colour
  • Sturdy Packaging
  • Doesn’t open inside the bag and closes with a ‘click’
  • Signed by Gong Li 😀
  • Good Pigmentation
  • Moisturising
  • Doesn’t transfer
  • Easily available

  • Doesn’t last long
  • Pricey

Chambor Infinite Lengths Lengthening Mascara Review

So, on a recent shopping frenzy last week, I picked up some Chambor goodies from the Shoppers Stop and today I’m going to review the Chambor Infinite Lengths Lengthening Mascara for you guys. 🙂DSC02063

I have been using the L’Oreal False Lash Architect 4-Dimensions Effect Mascara for quite sometime and to be honest  I am completely in love with it. However, when the lady on the Chambor counter showed my this Mascara I got attracted to it’s sexy curves… 😀

See what I’m talking about?

Product Claims:

Price: Rs. 795/- for 9.9ml

My Experience with Chambor Infinite Lengths Lengthening Mascara:

The mascara comes in a sexy navy blue packaging which I find really attractive.  The shape of the wand is interesting. It contains both long and short bristles, the shorter ones are meant to add length and definition to the lashes while the longer ones comb the lashes and mold them for a build-able length.

The pigmentation of the mascara is notable. One coat is enough for a natural look. If you want a dramatic look you can apply several coats and one thing I can promise is that, no matter how many coats you apply, the mascara won’t clump. However, I do think that for that price, it should have done a spectacular job.

The mascara is excellent for everyday wear. It doesn’t clump, it adds length, it dries out instantly after application, it washes off very easily. But if you are looking for a more dramatic (or seductive) look, you might be disappointed.

  • Doesn’t clump
  • Dries instantly
  • Special applicator
  • Perfect for everyday use
  • Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
  • Easy to remove
  • Pigmentation <3

  • I’m a big fan of dramatic/bold eyes, so I was disappointed a little
  • A little too pricey

L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique All-in-One Compact Powder Review in Shade Golden Amber

Hi guys, today am going to review the newly launched L’Oreal Paris Mat Magique Compact Powder…

So I went on a shopping spree after a long time and picked up this cute compact powder.

The packaging is equally attractive as the product inside.

The casing has a separate compartment for the sponge and the mirror.

The compact comes in five different shades for Indian Skin. I got it in the shade Golden Amber.

The texture is very silky and blends very easily. It stayed on my face for around 5 hours and didn’t cake up.  It also provided instant fairness as it claims while making my skin feel soft, shine free and covering up a recent break out mark.  What I like the most about this compact is that it has SPF 34 and PA+++and it contains Titaniam Dioxide which means that the compact contains physical sunscreen which is suitable for sensitive skin.

[Titaniam Dioxide protects skin from only UVB while Zinc Oxide protects skin against both UVA and UBV. However, this can be overlooked as we all will layer it up over our sunscreens if we are going to use it during daytime.]

I have dry to combination skin so I didn’t need to touch up even once but oily skin beauties might have to…

I really think that the compact lived up to it’s promise. May be it exaggerated a little about the staying power but apart from that I really, really loved the compact powder and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try out any new compact powder.

  • Contains SPF 34
  • No parabens
  • Budget friendly
  • Good for everyday use
  • Mirror

  • Oily skin beauties might need to touch up.
