AS-IT-IS Nutrition BCAA 100% Pure Powder Pre/Post Workout Supplement Review

Like I wrote in a previous article, I’ve resumed working out recently and my routine includes planks, squats and situps. I actually got around resuming exercising when I was approached by a brand called As-It-Is: a brand that is known for offering supplements in their pure form, without any additives or flavour. I’ve already reviewed two of their supplements and here comes the final one: BCAA or Branched Chain Amino Acids which is widely associated muscle building. However, I did some research and started taking it once I learnt about its benefits beyond muscle building and it’s benefits for women.

BCAA is made up of 3 essential amino acids that the body is unable to make. So you must either have it with food, or supplement it. It is found in high protein foods like chicken, beef, salmon, whey protein and eggs. Exercise increases energy expenditure and promotes oxidation of BCAAs in the muscles, which is why supplementing is a good option for people who works out a lot. BCAA increases protein synthesis in the body and reduces protein breakdown in the body while we work out. BCAA is also essential in supplying energy to the brain cells, and is effective in treating Anorexia ( a condition which results in severe muscle loss, and a condition I’m scared I’m heading towards) . Personally, I rarely eat foods containing BCAA, I don’t eat beef or salmon, I’m allergic to eggs, I eat chicken once in a while (I’m cutting down on non-veg intake) and have recently started taking Whey Protein after I was approached by As-It-Is. Which means if I’m not supplementing, my body rarely gets BCAA, and that in turn explains why I used to fall sick and lost massive weight (I’m already underweight) whenever I used to start exercising.

Needless to say, after learning the importance of BCAA I started taking them pre-workout with plain water. The supplement comes in a zip lock bag and is accompanied with a scoop that you can use to measure your dose. I’ve been taking it for a while and I feel energized while working out. I’m glad that I learnt about BCAA as I used to work out without any protein or amino acid intake. I’ll suggest it to anybody who works out and especially to people who’s into muscle building.
