With an aim to get a huge chunk of e-commerce market in the Indian economy, Amazon India’s fashion marketplace, Amazon Fashion, has recently launched an online baby clothing store. As per reports, the entirely new clothing store will offer 100K trending styles for babies for up to 2 years of age. Users may enjoy various Amazon offers as well.

The store will feature a wide variety of clothing options available for the babies ranging from home-grown to international brands like United Colours of Benetton, Gini & Jony, Mothercare, and 612 league. In addition to this, the store will also feature babyGAP products exclusively from GAP.

The products that will be available on the store include apparels, shoes, and accessories including booties, mittens, pre walkers, and first walkers. The range of products will be eligible for Amazon Prime Services and will be starting from a pocket friendly price of INR 100.

Arun Sirdeshmukh, head of Amazon Fashion said that, “Kids wear has been one of the largest selling categories on Amazon Fashion, with a noticeable growth of 80% in 2017 with 60% of the sales emerging from Tier II and Tier III cities. Moving hand in hand with this ever growing demand, we feel delighted to introduce the baby clothing store on Amazon Fashion, ensuring that our valuable customers have access to the best in fashion for their newborns as well as kids with the ease of shopping online.”

Kids Clothing Market In India

With the growing consciousness towards fashion, parents now-a-days are much concerned about their baby’s clothing and accessories. As a result, kids clothing has witnessed diversification and the introduction of various international kids brands in the Indian market. Through the launch of this segment, Amazon will compete with both ecommerce peers as well as with direct market players.

On the e-commerce front, major players like Jabong, Myntra, Flipkart and all others will be affected. Since Jabong is continuously expanding its kids section from 2015 and has even roped in famous brands like Pokémon, Disney, and Angry Bird along with Lilliput, nautinati, Gini & Jony, and others. In addition to this, Ratan Tata’s FirstCry is in the list. The company offers an exclusive range of baby and maternity products in India. The company has over 150 branded offline franchisee stores across 100 cities in the country.

In the offline segment reports have revealed that FirstCry is in talks to officially acquire the rights to operate stores of UK based kids products company Mothercare in India. List of other offline players competing against Amazon includes Hopscotch, Babyoye etc. In the attractive baby clothing line, international players like Russia’s Acoola have also stepped into the Indian market.

As reported by RNCOS, a business consulting service firm, said that India’s baby care market is expect to post a CAGR of over 15% in between 2015-2022. Furthermore, a study by Technopak has estimated that the Indian apparel market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9% to $102 billion by 2023. Also, the kids section is expected to grow up to 22% within the next 5 years. In the growing kids clothing section, the entry of Amazon India, an e-commerce giant, is going to have a positive impact on the market.
